Martin Paddle-Flex Blocker

I'm not a goalie but that looks like it would be a good idea. Only bad thing that I can see happening is the blocker not always going back to being straight.

It's a decent idea but too bad the paddle down move is one of the worst moves for a goalie to do.

Why would anyone use this move, exposing the top 1/2 of the net.

having tested this blocker for a couple of months it is a great blocker

The blocker goes back "straight" every single time. while it is not the best move to use as a goalie, the break is nice when you do have to use it.

for wrap-arounds. what are you going to do. just stand there? and expose 30-40% of the bottom of the net?

All-star, I say paddle down exposes 1/2 the net you you say that standing there exposing 30-40% of the bottom of the net is worse? Think about it. I would rather expose 30-40% of the net over 50% anyday. A butterfly slide or a poke check is a very effective way to stop wrap arrounds. Also going post to post and getting the stick over properly will prevent most wrap arrounds.

Now allstar, are you a goalie? It doesn't look like it. You should encourage all goalies the paddle down is a great move, and start putting the puck up stairs.

Paddle down is a good move, but it's not for anybody and must be used wisely.

It is very effective in front of net scrambles and wrap arounds.

k thats why you see like every goalie in the nhl putting the paddle down when there are wrap arounds, or scrums in front of the net. if you watch hockey night in canada and such. don cherry and kelly hrudey always say the paddle down is one of the best moves.

Allstar give it up. I forgot Don was a great goalie critic and I guess I didn't hear Kelly say is was a great move cause I was in a loud bar, with a beer. Funny Kelly never used it, Marty in the WHC doesn't, ect.... How is a paddle down good over a butterfly. A 26 inch by 3 1/2 inch paddle takes up way more space then a pads in a butterfly. Oh ya, the shaft of the stick takes up alot of room too. Then there's the whole other issue of exposing the top of the net. Can we just agree to disagree. K.

I don't know how you are doing the paddle down but the correct way still has the full 12 inch of the pads facing the shooter. There are times then the paddle down is the correct save movement and there are times when it's not. Likewise could be said for the butterfly.

You paddle down, a shooter can read and hit it top shelf. I try not to use it, but the league I am in the puck doesn't get off the ice.

That's a dead giveaway that I don't play in that league. I actually managed to keep one on teh ice for a change tonight.

i think that would really help beginner goalies, it lets them get into a sort of push up position for getting off the ice and back on their feet faster. i know my school goalies could use one of those ;)
