Help a Graf 735 User

I have been experiencing some serious lace bite in my 735s. I love the way they lock in my narrow heel and the wider forefoot is fine. I did the pencil test after really starting to experience great pain in the top on the left foot. I failed miserably.

I was going to try some gel padding to stop the lace bite, but I am afraid I am already bursting out of the boot. Should I just give up on these skates? Is there something similar in fit (wide front, narrow heel) that I might try? I was meaning to try the Shifts, but I have not had the chance. I need more volume. Thanks!

A friend of mine who skates in 735s started getting lacebite right after breaking in the skates. He used some moleskin to alleviate the pressure, and the tenderness went away. hasn't had a problem since. He can definitely use some more volume, but loves the skates. If you play fairly often, it might be a matter of allowing the affecter area to heal up a bit by using mole skin/gel pads, or by not tightening the skate as tight in that spot.

I bulge out of my graf g3's but never feel a thing with those nice tongues. I say just tuff it out for now and wait a week or so.

I'd try loosening your laces a bit as the 735 is a snug fitting skate. You should still get plenty of ankle support and it will give the tongue a little more more break in room. If that doesn't work try the first suggestion of the mole skin which is also a very good idea. Don't give up to quickly on these skates as I did a few years back. Once they are broken in they will be the most comfortable skates you may ever own. I'm just getting mine broken in and they've become a pleasure to put on after several sessions on them. Besides you've spent a decent amount of cash on them so you'd like to get something for your cash and effort.

You said your were meaning to try the "Shifts", are you saying that you heard these were similar in fit to the Graf 735? Also what Shifts were you talking about the "One" or "Two"??

Thanks guys. I have had these for about a year now. I have had them re-baked, but now that I am skating/playing more than ever I have been really suffering. I tried some gel pads last night that I cut down from old insoles. They helped a little bit, but maybe are too thick. I will try something a tad thinner.

As for the Shifts, I am not sure they are anything like the 735s, I just know that the local LHS has been blowing them out and they look good.

The Vapors and AGX are appealing, maybe I will go check some out.
