rbk helmets: 4k vs 6k vs 8k

Recommended Posts

I didn't get a chance to try on the 6k or 8k. I did try on the 4k and it fits me very well.

Will the fitting of the 4k be similar to the 6k or 8k?

The fit will be different for all of them. If your just playing recreational hockey I'd go with the 6K. It's plenty of protection for that level. If you have extra dollars floating about then you might want to look at the 8K. Each helmet gives you a little more protection as you move further up the ladder.

i tihnk the 4 k fits the widest vairety of heads becasue of the internal foams that have more give in them compared to the 6 and 8 k that have the hard interal shell with the gel pads. as far as the 6 and the 8 i personally have found that the 6k fits a touch, and i mean a touch longer than the 8k becasue the 6k doesnt have the girth dial that the 8k has

If the 4K fit you well, I would just go with that one.

Case in point, I owned a 6K a while back and while I liked it, the comfort foam had a nasty habit of peeling off of the EPP on the inside of the helmet. I'm not sure if that's a problem with the 8K or not, but for that reason alone, I've decided to stick with dual density foam helmets from now on.

I now own a 4K and while I hate how stubborn the fitclip is on it as opposed to the higher-end models, I think I'm going to end up being a lot happier with this helmet in the long run.

It doesn't hurt that it's cheaper, either.

I guess the reason I'm asking is because...

If I fit very well on a low end helmet, I guess I'm losing out on bells and whistles like better ventilation, lighter helmet, etc. on the higher ends?

One thing to check is if the lower end models are larger than the high end models, I have a big head and it is always a problem getting head ware for most sports. I started out in a XL Bauer 4500 helmet and then realised it wasn't an anti-concussion design so shopped around for a bit and it turns out the only higher end helmet that fits me is the RBK 8k and even then only just. So it seems the manufacturers make the lower end helmets fit a wider range of heads which is something to be check if you are ordering mail order...

My 2p.

i have the SAME problem with my 8k. it's starting to piss me off as i have to move it around before every game. anyone else having this issue? my two friends with 6k's don't have it but they got it pretty recent. i've had mine since the first 8k's came out. i wonder if rbk has some glue they can send us to fix it

...same problem with my 8k. i like the helmet and it´s really comfortable for me.

another thing is that my few fallen out hairs adhere to the comfort foam. also pieces of fluff. i really don´t like THIS!

you can´t even clean it because it starts to become unfastened. :(
