New CCM Vector 08

Recommended Posts

So, I did a search, and I just want to verify.

The new Vector 08 is a pro level skate, is the same fit as the older vector 10, and can be heat molded but wont mold as much as the u+.

seems to be a good deal at $279.99

Is this all correct?

The u+ fit OK at my LHS after baking, but they dont have the new Vector 08. Is the fit that drastically different?

I dont have a vector 10 to try on.

I assume you havent tried on these skates? Are you buying them online?? I'm 225lbs myself and was told to steer clear of the new CCM skates due to their light construction, but who knows? Do you have a chance to try them on? I'm confused by one of your statements earlier..You stated that the Bauer toecap was too tight, but the Graf fits okay? The Graf 709 and its variants are a wider skate, but the toecaps remain the same size I believe. I had a lot of pinching over the years with my 707s and even in my Graf 502 9Ws..Comfy skate though otherwise. I know the new Vapors/Supremes have an improved toecap over the previous models. Have you tried on the One95s/One75/One55 or Vapor XXXX/XXV series? Or just the older Vapor XXXs and Supreme One90/70/50 types? I didnt fit well into the One70s at all..

I tried on all the bauers. It is the seam where the toecap meets the skate...that is where my problem lies. The CCM seam is further down into the toecap, so it doesnt bother me. The Eastons dont have the seam at all, which is why my s15s fit the best. As the Vector 08 is only $279 for a pro level skate, I am hoping it will fit me. I dont mind paying that much each year for a skate....but double that for s15, u+, 0ne95, and it gets a bit hard to swallow.

Most of the reviews I've read so far on the new Vector skate line is very good as far as comfort is concerned. But as with you, there are some guys who are worried about the durability of these skates because their so light. If thats not a concern and you're alright with replacing them with another skate in the same price range in another year I'd give them a go. I've always found CCM is one of the most comfortable fits on the market because of the wider toe area and find they give you a good bang for your buck especially in the high mid-range area.

Will the V08 expand to fit like the u+? If not, to what degree will they expand when heat molded. I am thinking I will just have to wait until my LHS gets them and try them on.

They are a bit wider than the previous vector series. I had a E width when i wore the 6.0 se skates and now im in a D width with the V08s. They expanded perfectly to my foot when I got them baked and my lhs told me that hwhile they aren't completely as heat moldable as the u+ they are pretty close.

I've got some CCM Vector 10 Ovechkin Vector 10s in 10D (brand new in box, never worn, never skated in, never baked, only some cosmetic blemishes) and 9.5D (brand new in box, never worn, never skated in, never baked) that are awesome but neither have enough volume for my feet so I am looking to sell them for cheap. If interested let me know and let's see if we can make a deal and help each other out. Thanks,

That is good news. Perhaps they will fit my wide foot! Looking forward to trying them on if my LHS can get them in (they already have the u+)

I have a pretty wide foot myself and fit nicely into a 9.0 CCM Vector 08. I have to wear a WIDE in most Graf and Mission models. The Eastons are too shallow volume-wise for me, but they're wide. You should go into the hockey shop with an open mind since its been 20 years that you've played. Any good shop can work with you regarding the toe cap and seams. The one near my house will go into the boot and heat it up..punch it out and so on...They insist on working with you as you play to get the boot to fit you correctly. The S15s may fit you nicely out of the box, but you may be a bit too heavy for them. I rarely see anyone over 175lbs wearing those skates in local beer leagues probably due to the fact that they've gained a reputation for being somewhat fragile. I'm sure Easton will continue to develop their Stealth line of skates and continue to work to a better product after the initial teething troubles..Anyways good luck up in Boston/Albany with your skate search...Look to spend a couple hours in the shop instead of 20 minutes...

I have spent HOURS in the LHS's, but their stock is low. They have told me that they are not able to change the toecaps, and cant punch out composite material skates like the s15 and 0ne95's. Yes, I am at 210-220lbs and the s15 arent the best for that weight. I trusted the LHS guy who said they will last forever. I know....naieve....but I had no knowledge. I have a very open mind about my options, but I rarely get similar opinions from differing LHS's as well as differing staff members within each LHS!!

I am to the point that I dont care what the skate looks like....just want quality that fits. The Vector08 looks like a possibility, though it makes me want to throw up when I look at it!! LOL Cant wait until the LHS gets it in.

Anyway....the quest continues.

ONE95s can be punched, don't know where they got that from. Well, I do, but I'm trying to be cordial.

Really? Hmmmm. You can see why I get so frustrated? Differing, and even opposing information all the time.

I tried on the ONE95 and it was still too narrow, not by much, but I assumed that it can and will open up with baking, and might fit.....but they said that the problem with my toe is the seam where the toecap meets the boot, and that they cant make that area wider, or fix that.

I am so f-ing frustrated. I know my s15s will last until the end of the year (at least I hope), but I will eventually need to find a replacement, and want to know what boot it is now instead of doing all this crap in haste and end up buying a pair that is not good for me.

And yes, you are cordial, and I appreciate that.

I still have the Vector08, the RBK, and Graf to try on, as I would rather find a non-custom boot that will fit.

I am really hoping the Vector08 fits.

Interesting - I went from a S15 R to a ONE90 D w/o any problems at all.

I can tell you right now Graf won't work for you unless you went with a custom oversized toecap. I wore 705 many moons ago and had to develop calluses on my toes (and keep them there) to minimize the pain.

Believe me, I wish I knew what the definitive problem was. It started with my supreme 50's after a 1-1/2 months. I got extreme pain on the outside of my big toe, right on that seam. I am sure the bauer 2EE ONE90's will likely be wide enough, as are the s15....but the eastons dont have that seam with the full composite construction. That is also why the u+ felt ok as well....the seam is further down as it seemed the toecap was shorter, and the seam was also much smoother. That is why I am hoping the Vector08 will be wide enough for me. I also suspect that the S15 isnt deep enough for me...depth is something I never considered until reading posts here.

EDIT...BTW, JR, your help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
