Crosby in song

Recommended Posts

I was listening to one of Busta Rhymes new songs called throw it up and i found it pretty funny that Sidney Crosby was mentioned in it. It goes "skating on blades like Sidney Crosby"and then theres a pause and says thats hockey. I just found it funny how they used him, hockey really doesnt get that much exposure.

In Nelly Furtado's song Promisicuous she says something like

"hey, you can't mvp like Steve Nash"

I know Steve plays bball and Rick plays hockey, I was just mentoning that Sid wasn't the only in a song I know. Steve Nash was actually born in South Africa though!

Back in the day, in one of Kid Rock's songs, he said "...in it to win it like Yzerman". Both are obviously icons in the Detroit area. In Busta's song, it is actually Lil' Wayne who drops Sidney Crosby's name. Later in the song, Ludacris mentions playing hockey, too.

There is a Canadian country singer named Adam Gregory. A few years ago he had a song where, to describe how he felt about his new girl used the line...

"I'm feeling good, I've got it made in the shade...I feel like Greztky on a breakaway"

Don't ever quote Little Wayne ever again. Worst rapper ever. Look what he's done to the game...best rapper alive, since when did Nas, KRS-One, Gza, Ghostface, Common, Immortal Technique, and countless others die?

I don't really listen to a lot of rap, I was just quoting that because it's hockey in a rap song... Lollipop and a lot of Lil Wayne songs are terrible and it's annoying how popular he is but I like a lot of Lil Wayne stuff, he's pretty much the only popular rapper alive that I listen to... What has he done to the game? I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just wondering.

I wasn't meaning to aim that at you, my bad, I just hate him haha. He's made everybody forget about all the true greats by stating he is "the best rapper alive". Sadly most people buy into it and think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. If I made a list he wouldn't be in my top 200 rappers.

I will admit, he's definitley not the worst compared to a lot of BS that calls itself rap out there. Hip-Hop > Rap

I will agree that Lil' Wayne may not be the best rapper alive but I do like a lot of his mixtape stuff. The AMG remix of Cannon on Dedication II was good, as was Brand New from the Drought IV. As far as best rapper alive, you're exactly right when you named Ghostface, Common, and Nas. I'm personally partial to Bun B and Method Man, but what do I know..

Bun and Meth are nice, but not close to Nas or Common. Illmatic and Ressurection are two of the greatest Hip-Hop albums ever made, Illmatic might be THE best ever.

I have to be honest again, I do like the Cannon remix. And I like some of his stuff from The Carter I, mostly because Mannie Fresh's production was amazing on that album.

Rakim is good, too. I think the moniker or "Best Rapper Alive" is all in what we like to call 'personal preference'. I like to listen to different rappers at different times. When I want to get pumped up for something, it's either Bun B, Lil' Wayne, or Method Man. When I feel like hanging out, it's Common or Erik B and Rakim.

Rakim is great but by far overrated. I was just naming a few quick names anyway, I could extend the list if you'd like? Mos Def, old school Mobb Deep, Asheru, Lupe is nice, Lord Finesse, Capadona, Eminem, Royce Da 5'9", ATCQ, JMT...all better than Wayne.

i think i would put wayne in a top 100. while most of his "hits" are terrible, if you listen so some of his older and less known stuff you can see that he does actually have some talent and some pretty good flow. Of course he's nothing compared to guys like Nas, AZ, Dre, Ghostface, etc, the guys who really spit it. but hey, at least he's giving hockey some publicity haha
