Mission Goalie?

Recommended Posts

I was comparing goalie equipment for a friend of mine online and noticed that all of the 2004 Mission goalie gear was less than half the price of the other brands. Has anybody used this equipment for ice hockey? Are there any opinions on this equipment? How does it stack up with the equipment from the other makers (CCM, Koho, Sherwood, Eagle, etc.)?

Although I haven't personally used the equipment, the goalie for our roller hockey team loves his mission equipment. He has mentioned that it seems to have a little more ventilation than other brands.

Their site is confusing then b/c they have their Motion goalie gear under the heading of "New Ice '04 Gear" in their Ice Hockey section. I would think that if it is not ideal equipment for ice hockey then they wouldn't want to put it under their ice section. If people don't know any better then they might try to purchase the stuff for use on ice, hate it because of it's lack of protection and then write the brand off as junk. If it's meant more for roller hockey then they should keep it there until they have a true ice hockey line of goalie equipment.

Thanks for the input. If there is any more info then fire away!

The Motion line is fine for ice as I understand it, just not designed to be the same as the very expensive high end ice pads on the market. With the Itech merger, who knows what the plan is for a high end Mission goal pad.

The Motion 300 is for Ice...It looks the same, but doesn't have the plastic on the sides...The Catch and blocker can most certainly be used for both...Plenty of protection for entry to mid-level ice play...

Is Itech still going to manufacture goalie gear and helmets or is that going to be taken over by Mission?

The new 2005 Motion Pads can be used for both Ice and Roller...The Motion Lite could also be used, but more for entry level or younger kids....

What has Mission done to address traditional wear issues associated with goals pads when used accross platforms?

We have upspec'd the material used on the face of the pads, as well as using a 1680 Denier Nylon for the sides of the pads. This Nylon has been used on some other items that see high abrassion and have held up tremendously...
