Easton s15 skate fit

Recommended Posts

So my 1st gen S11's were coming unglued, and the guys at Hockeymonkey were cool enough to help me get a new pair even though they were almost a year old, months past the 90-day warranty. The problem is, the new tongue is so thin at the top that the lace bite is unbearable. Has anyone else found a solution to this on the 2nd gen S15/S11, or should I just not lace them all the way to the top?

Now I'm off to pick up some Neosporin for the tops of my ankles... :(

how do I tell the differance between the 1st and second generation s-15's.

Not really changes in generations as much as they're soft/running changes. So besides the change in piping/binding around the tongue, I've been told to examine the small triangular windows for "foggier" silver than the rest of the upper. They changed glue and used 'grabbier' overlays that lack luster, because the shiny unibody was too smooth. And they extended below the 'Easton' to increase gluing surface, so that straight line now has a kink in it. I forget which was which, but you can tell them apart by their lighter/darker linings and tongues. I may recall the new tongue being almost black, so maybe the newer is darker.

I tried to illustrate:

This is very good information. Just to clarify/confirm two things:

1) If the skate has piping/binding ALL AROUND the tongue (and not just at the top), that alone would confirm that the particular skates are first generation?

2) And for sizing in my case, based on all you S15 owners' experiences, if I currently wear (20 year old 457/547?) CCM in size 8R and Graf 704 in size 8.5R (but these are way too narrow for me), a size ??? in S15 could possibly work for me?

Thanks.

I found easton to be a smaller fitting skate than other brands. I was wearing a size 9D in first gen RBK 9Ks and they were a bit to big in length, switching to Easton S17s I needed a 9.5R to get a comfortable fit after baking twice. I don't know about the sizing for the S15's, but I was surprised I needed a size up in S17's

Why surprised? I needed a larger "size" in the s15 too. I was 8 in one50's, but 8.5 in s15's. It is just a matter of differing companies method of measuring, along with skates of differing shapes.

I have a related question to those in the know. I am interested in trying the s17, but dont have any available to try. Is the s15 and the s17 the exact same fit, or are their some differences?

Narrow in the heel, pretty wide for foot, these need to be baked. I needed to bake them twice to stop having sore feet.

I know the basic fit is the same. I want to know if the fit is EXACTLY the same as the s15. Did they use the same last and boot shape, or is it a bit different? The s15 and s11 are different. The s17 and s12 are different I believe as well. I want to know if the s17 and the s15 are the same.

And I didnt need to bake my s15s at all. I baked my first pair and didnt notice a bit of difference. But that is just my experience. I would be scared to bake Easton composite skates because of my first experience with the glue issues. I can only hope that has been fixed.

Keep us posted on the durability.

After having baked the twice, and had 10 sessions on them, I have absolutely no complaints, except the steel and holder, whic I will be changing out soon.

If I have Nike Bauer Vapors in a size 9 what size about should i get for the S15's because i found a great deal and was thinking of getting them but dont have any where to try them on, deal is online.

If you fit the vapors well, the Easton boot shape will not be anywhere close to fitting you.

s15's durability is terrible. went through 3 pairs withing 5 months. luckily easton knows they produced a crappy skate and kept getting me new pairs until finally they made me a pro stock skate, double stiff, with graf tongues . ill post pics. but honestly i wouldn't purchase them unless your getting a really good deal and warranty still applies. MY 2 cents

I put to bakes on my S15's and Love the way they fit. I was in vapor 25's for a long time and both pairs of those had to have the fore foot punched out. Tried on a S15 in December and was in love. In nine months I have had no durability issues at all. Great skate in my opinion, I even like the holders/steel. The only complaint I have is 2 things, the lack of a felt tongue, which i replaced, and the lining. I like to skate barefoot but that lining rubs terrible sores on my outside ankles, but its only blood right.

Im trying to decide between two different skates im going to try both on friday, but in your guys opinion what is better the S15 for 329.99 or S12 for 299.99, I read that the S12 has all the same features as the S17 just with a different liner and blade/holder (not really sure which) but the blade holder is coming off for a roller chassis so which would you choose?

So my friend goes into the lhs, looking to change the holders on his S15's because he cracked one of them. Lhs owner (great knowledge about skates, only guy I trust) holds them and says that he wouldn't invest 5cents in them, and continued to bend the skate.

Long story short, he ended up getting S17's in the exact same size as his S15's, for those who were wondering.

Hope it helps.

the tex outershell is lighter much lighter. the glass fiber they use in the s12 is heavier, more durable, and actually a little stiffer. Same concept in sticks. the more fiberglass the heavier and usually more durable. whose gonna win in a sword fight between a one95 and a one55. the one55 it has more fiberglass to keep cost down. the s15, and s17 is undoubtedly the better skate. But id still go with the vapor or supreme series. cuz bauer is just plain better.

Im not sure what that even meant but i went to my lhs and i tried on a pair of S12s and the fit is great! So i decided that these are gonna be the skates im gonna get and if the durability fact is true then it gets a huge plus for conversion, thanks for the help. :D
