Pro-tec toe

Recommended Posts

When skates used to have the nylon around the toe I'd use the diamond finish Varathane to do my toes. I'd apply an intial coat, let it dry for 24 hours and then do two or three more coats the same way. Never ever had problems with the nylon shredding after that. I'd try brushing on a strip of varathane to see if there is any reaction with the plastic toe. If it doesn't seem to bother it then do a couple of coats around the plastic toe. Varathane will give it excellent resiliance to physical contact and water as well.

Use fine grit sand paper and sand between coats. Should only need about 3-4 coats for max protection. Sand the last coat and it will not be shiny.

When you are applying the Pro-tec toe, while it is still tacky, get some masking tape and just stick on and rip it off right away. Apply another coat and do the same thing. That should help with the sheen.
