Really, this thread should just die out. Eric, I feel your pain about skates. I'm sure everyone here does, but enough is enough. You keep posting updates that, to be quite honest, no one has asked for. Nor do they even care. Your correspondance with JR could have, and from what JR says, SHOULD HAVE been done in PM's.

I hope you find skates that fit, I truly do, but quit updating us on every thought you have, and every move you make. If someone cares, they can send you a PM to find out.

No one else gets fitted for skates, then quotes the LHS employees diatribe about Graf models verbatim. No need to...... (*HINT HINT!*)

There's wood in a 709?

That is what the guy said. I think he said "very light wood", I thought it sounded wierd too.

If people dont like this thread, the please stop bashing it, and just ignore it. Thanks.

If you (JR) think this thread should be locked, please do, but if you and others keep posting, I will surmise others are getting someting from this thread too.

I think this thread does have valuable info...as maybe someone else is having the same fitting issues.

Anyone have some input on the 709, and what I can expect? Or perhaps what the difference is between the 709 and G9 are? Someone also said to look into the G70?

Use the "Search" before you post redundant questions ... Graf topics aplenty.

I did actually, and did read them all....but none with anyone with personal experience with the 709. Maybe I missed it, and maybe the models they have are similar....not sure. Didnt see much at all on the G9 or G70. From what I gather, they are all a similar fit, but look very different and are priced different. Maybe I will talk to the ref at my next game :)

You must read really quickly as there are hundreds of Graf posts ... did you read this one ?

Wow...I missed that one, and it explains exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks lefty!

There's no wood in a Graf skate.

OK. So the kid at the LHS might not be well versed in Graf skates. I hope his measuring skills are better.

I seriously doubt this guy really thinks there is wood in Graf skates. Maybe it's just an expression. "Old school wood and leather" = old sticks and old skates?

This is an odd thread ... it bores the pants off me, but I keep comming back in! :(

Just got of the phone with the owner of the LHS and he said no 709's in stock at Graf (6 weeks for delivery, so ordering them and re-ordering to get the right size may take a LONG time), and said they dont even make the g9 anymore. I guess I will have to buy used s15's until I go up north (anyone have used s15's in 8.5R?) in Dec/Jan and go to an LHS in Massachussetts or New York. Do the LHS's in Mass (within 1 hour of Boston or so) stock a lot of Grafs to try on?

Thanks.

Lefty, I appreciate that, but the list can be out of date, Of the two or three stores in my area on the list, one doesnt exist, one doesnt carry graf anymore, and one only orders the size you need (as mentioned above). What I would like is someone with first hand knowledge of a store in the area that has a very full selection to try. but again, I appreciate the info.

Try Sports Etc in Arlington - I bought some Bauer skates from them years ago and the service was excellent. But that was years ago and I don't have a clue about Grafs ...

Zwickers in bedford, ma and total sports repair in salem, nh are great stores. Don't know if they have grafs but if they do, its worth the trip.

Why not see JR like you've said repeatedly in the past? Why dink around up in the northeast or wait til then?

Because JR, and others, have suggested to try all retail options before trying customs....and this actually makes sense for a couple of reasons:

1- cost. thought I can afford customs, it is cheaper to be able to buy retail...by about half in some cases.

2- time. my time and JR's time.

3- future. to be able to order a new pair of retails whenever needed, I will know exactly what I need and can get them quicktl.....even online.

If the Grafs dont fit, I, and JR, will be satisfied when I go see him for customs, that I have exhausted all retail options. I might even get to try on other options up north I dont have here, like Kor or others.

Anyway, I will just make due with used s15's until I can get there in Dec. It makes sense, no?

If JR thinks it makes more sense to just do customs, then I will take his word and expertise, and make the trip, JR? Input?

A lot. But the past doesnt change what I should do going forward....custom or retail. If I try Graf, it will take less money and time, but no guarantee I will find a skate. With custom, I will get the skate, but it will take more time and money.

Just decided to pick up another pair of s15's to use until I can go up North and find a skate that truly fits. The s15's are customs and will last longer than the retails (hopefully) so I am in no frantic rush, which feels good. I will be in Boston, MA and Albany, NY for a couple of weeks in December, and will try on Grafs, Kor, Flexlites, or any other skates I havent tried yet. If all those retail options fail, I will feel satisfied that customs are the way to go, and can justify the extra time and money required. I will also feel comfortable asking JR for his time and assistance knowing that I have exhausted all other options (which is what he suggested also). At least I will have a skate I like to tide me over until then. /end thread
