Buying skates online is OK if it is a replacement pair for the same pair you bought in an LHS. I bought my s15's at my LHS, but got my next pair online.

They were compensated for their time and expertise with my first purchase. I dont feel an obligation to buy another of the same pair at the LHS.

Others my feel different, but it is JMHO.

Did your LHS charge you to heat mold, sharpen, and radius the new pair? All of which you would have got for free had you purchased them at the shop.

The problem seems to be when people use their LSH as a fitting room for internet purchases. They walk in, take up the staffs time with no real intention of buying the product there.

Man I derailed the hell out of this thread. I think I'll go to the store and look for prices without bugging anyone first. If it's not an absurd amount more then I'll buy from LHS. I'm just a poor college student who is sick of his elbow pads flipping around every time he takes a slapshot and his pants being way too short because he was 5'4" when he bought them! >.<

I agree with the fitting room comment....that is true and not too cool.

I dont get my skates heat molded or radiused. Not to sure about the LHS skill in the radius thing, and not too sure of the real benefits, as I dont know much about it.

They did sharpen them though, and that seems to be enough.

The pair that I got online werent retail, they were custom pro return, so the LHS thing is moot.

But when I need to be fitted for a retail boot, I will buy that boot at the LHS store that fits me...but it needs to be done properly, as I wont give my business to an LHS that is clueless. Not only do they not add value, but poor advise can be detrimental and cause harm.

Knowledgeable LHS + good inventory and me trying them on = business for the LHS.

Take away either of those first two variables, and the last part of the equation is in jeopardy.

Yea, i have worked retail, and i could have cared less if i helped someone out and they still didn't buy, why? Because that is what i was paid for, to help a customer out regardless.

Also, stores online, are stores, I'm giving someone business. Most of them are physical shops too with a web page.

When you worked retail, I'm guessing you weren't an owner or manager of the store. There's a big difference between punching a clock for a paycheck and the angle the others are talking about. The reality is you're using the local shop as a fitting room for the online store. Using their facilities and inventory to purchase from a competitor is dishonest, not being a "good shopper". The mentality of squeezing every last penny is a huge part of the reason our national economy is in the shape that it's in. People will buy from an online shop 2000 miles away to save $5 rather than have that go to someone who is more likely to put the money back into the local economy. Defend your actions any way you want but the reality is what you do is unethical and bad for the economy. But hey, it's good for you so screw everyone else. Welcome to the United States of Wal-Mart.

I'm tired of people derailing topics with this bullshit.

Adding a quote from the PM this member sent to me.

Some of you here are loyal to a FAULT to "local shops" with your "free the local shop" hippie mentality. I don't owe them jack. In fact they owe ME after all the money i spent there over the years. And I'm talking 1K+

The shop owes you the equipment you paid for and nothing else. Just as you don't owe them anything above and beyond the cash you paid for providing the equipment. Only when you utilize their showroom and/or resources do you owe them something.
