chippa13 1844 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Funerals and wakes are pretty much always awkward and uncomfortable. That shouldn't stop you from going. Showing up means so much to those going through the loss.
mack 44 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 I agree with the last two statements. When my old man passed, I figured I would be okay at the funeral. My best friend showed up and just hung out with my sister and I the whole time and though I didn't realise it at the time, that meant more to me than any condolences I received. Also, don't make jokes about the shitty food at a wake. Even if it's for your old man.
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted September 3, 2008 One of the guys I've skated/worked-out with over the past couple summers is the brother of Jonathon Cote - a former soldier who was working in Iraq as a security contractor when he was kidnapped, tortured and killed (http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b35_1209777147). Though none of us really knew Jon personally, it was an absolute no-brainer when myself and a few of the other guys who play/lift with us began making plans to attend the wake and the funeral. It was one of the saddest experiences of my life, but being able to see just how much Chris and his family needed/appreciated our support (and the support of everyone else there) was incredible.
