Smyth Warrior Pattern

Recommended Posts

Did a search, but the info seems to be buried.... the Smyth Warrior pattern is supposed to be Kovalchuk's, according to what i've heard. Regardless just interested in if anybody has used it, what they think....how open is it, say compared to an Easton Sakic? Is the size of the curve comparable to Easton Sakic? If you can't tell i've used Sakic for a while, thinking about going for a Warrior, and don't know if i should stick to like a Sakic/Draper or be a little adventuresome and try the Smyth. THanks in advance.

With the smyth i find you need to do a "pure" sweeping motion when shooting and passing with no extra flick of the wrists. If you go straght back the puck will load up right where the blade curves in the right spot. With the sakic you more do a snap shot(or at least i did) with flicking the wrists, if you do that with the Smyth the puck will come of the wrong part of the blade and be flat. It's much more closed then the sakic so even though the curve looks huge i never had a problem with the puck flying way over the net. I find it to be not as tall as the sakic and the toe is much smaller because its shaved off and the bottom near the toe. It's a lot easier to use/adjust to then it looks so i say go for it.

The Smyth is identical to an easton gaborik/yzerman. It's got a closed face while the sakic is open. Hope that helps!

I was under the impression that Kovalchuk replaced the robataille. Am I incorrect?

The curve is the exact same as a Smyth, but with a 5 or 6 lie, instead of Smyths 4

You're correct. I think what the OP was asking if the retail Smyth curve is a Kovalchuk pro.

The retail Kovalchuk (which replaced Robitaille) is a little shallower and has a higher lie than the Smyth

I have been using it for a while and it is indeed more closed than a sakic. I think it gets most of its curve a tad closer to the toe also. I compared it to the gaborik that a guy was using and the gaborik seemed like it hooked way more in the middle of the blade than my smyth (which has more hook toward the toe).

I have the sakic and the smyth, and they are nothing alike. I definitely prefer the smyth. I think it's more like the pro stock kovalchuk

Andoy the Smyth is nothing like the Yzerman. Lower lie, rounder, less angled toe, more rocker, and a much smoother curve from mid to toe.
