flex and kickpoints?

Recommended Posts

Do you guys find that the Onexx sticks, with the higher kickpoint feel more whippy than others? It feels like that to me compared to say a Dolomite.

I have a One70 in a 77 flex, and a One90 in a 87 flex.

I like the 77 flex in terms of shooting, but faceoffs and stickhanding felt very weird. Especially in terms of quick movements there seemed to be a huge lag. The One90 didn't have this problem, felt solid, but I was missing that nice pop I felt before unless I loaded a nice slapper.

If I were to get a mid flex in another stick with a lower kickpoint, would I still have that laggy feeling?

I've always found tapered sticks to have a little more whip in a given flex than standard shafts. That would also carry over to sticks with a thinner rather than thicker tapers. You have to compare a large number of sticks to get a decent sample size, not just one or two.

I agree, generally. I also think kickpoint can be one factor but I've never thought of it as paramount.

fyi, i've only used one xxx lite ops, 77 flex. it was actually stiffer than every easton 85flex ops i've used. could just be an anomaly..i don't know. wish i still had that stick...awesome shooters stick.

My 77 XXX Lites feel stiffer than my 77 ONE90s, cut to the same length. I've had four XXX Lites and two ONE90s and this held true for all of them as far as my experiences go.

I have no idea to be honest. I had a friend who went through many 87 ONE90s and each of those seemed to equate in flex to my 77 XXX Lites.

I had some old vapor xx's 87 and the one90's in 87 are only slightly more whippy. Maybe 83-84. IMO, they feel very similar to most 85 Eastons. Perhaps just slightly lower.

Well I haven't compared brands directly too often, but I had an Easton Octane "70 flex" that felt like it was about 100 flex or more. I couldn't flex it to save my life. Meanwhile, my Synergy II "70 flex" was nice and whippy, felt like about 70 flex.

I also had a CCM mid or light flex (I think it was supposed to be about 75 flex or so) in standard taper which was far too stiff for me. My 85 flex Dolomite was definitely whippier.

The only whippy standard taper shaft I had was an XN10 Redlite shaft. Everything else has always been too stiff for me, but it could be that I have to cut a few inches off the shaft, and then the blades have longer hosels (which might make the kickpoints higher), etc.

So my experience is tapered shafts feel more flexible.
