Speed Demon

Graf Skates and installing Lightspeeds

Recommended Posts

Planning on getting some Graf G3s and putting some Light speeds on them.

1) Will they have to drill new holes?

2) Is there a risk that they will screw it up, therefore screwing the skate up?

3) If I get a professional place to do it, I can probably count on them?

lol, I have the dumbest questions on this site.

Yea they most likley have to drill holes. They did on both pairs or my 703s. I wouldn't worry about it, its not that difficult to do.

Come on man. This is your fourth thread about blades. Any reason you couldn't incoporate them into one?

It is because new issues enter into my mind. I ask many questions because this is what I have worked for this summer and I want to make sure that I am spending my money wisely. On this message board, where I am surrounded by people know what they are talking about, why not take a few key strokes and ask the question?

Its not that you have questions that bothers me, among others, its the fact that they're all related questions that can be put into one thread.

It's not the amount of Questions (except when they are repeat questions) as the amount of threads you put it into. You could've put it as like G3 Inquiries? And asked all of your G3 related questions in the same. At least I think thats what Kosy and many others are kind've thinking, myself included.

Why not give the Cobra's a try? You may or may not like, but you could at least try them out for yourself. If you dead set against them, then why not see if you can order them without the blades?

I am not going to keep the cobras on them because I have heard too much negative on here about how badly they get chips in them and they don't stay sharpened. I sharpen my Tuuks enough now, so I can only imagine the Cobras.

thenizzle, what exactly was it that influenced your final decision?

Dexy, the reason i decided not to go through with the plan was for a few reasons actually:

(1) After talking to a local hockey guy i have a lot of respect for (some pros get their skates specially sharpened there), the guy told me this: the TUUK is very popular, but the cobra just isnt as bad as ppl say it is. In fact, the new TUUK blades break so often he has to change like 5-6 a week for ppl. A kid on my team broke his TUUK skate blade on his first skate. Also, the screw system on the cobra is actually stronger than the new lightspeeds, especially if u use some locktight. The TUUK plastic is also hollow, compared to the cobras being solid, so the cobra is much more durable.

Last, if you take good care of ur blade (ie use soakies and dont step on cement or sticks etc) and get ur skates sharpened by som1 who knows what they are doing (ie JR) then the cobra blade is super. It doesnt ware and it took me 1.5 years to break my blade. Therefore, i realized that it wasnt worth it to switch holders; there would be no performance difference. And price wasnt even an issue for me, imagine if it was.

I hope this convinces u to even try the cobras out for a few times dexy. If not, no harm done, go over to the TUUKs. though if u do go for the more durable and better steel quality of the custom plus; the Lightspeed blades break like no other.

Good luck.

ouch, he shoots, he scores!

seriously now dexy, stop starting new topics over and over for the same thread. Also, i know for a fact there was a recent topic about installing tuuks on grafs, so this is just a waste.

The only thing you gotta watch out for is that they should probably silicon fill the old hole to avoid any warping. I've heard a lot of people say that there is no risk in the boot warping but better safe then sorry and all that jazz right? The other thing is harp heavy on the person doing and make sure they know what their doing and that they install them correctly... probably posted this before but I got some graf 735's from hockey monkey and sent em back to get the lightspeeds installed, I originally wanted to just get the lightspeeds myself and get my lhs to do it but they said "make sure whoever does it knows what their doing!" So I sent em back to CA to let them do it, and good god they butchered em! I sent in a complaint and their response was "everyone has their opinion on what correct mounting is..." when the tuuk is off the skate on the ball of the foot, well screw opinions and bring on common sense. Whatever just make sure the person knows whats goin on and avoid a $500 mistake.

What are soakies?

I think that I am going to take after the Russian team. Everyone on there switches over to a tuuk holder. What do you guys think is better, Custom Plus or Tuuk Light Speed? What is the dfference other then that Custom Plus is not raised in the back a bit like the light speeds and perf blade on Lightspeeds? Thanks.

I like the lightspeeds. I had regular tuuks but switched right back to lightspeeds. You can get the lightspeeds with non perf.

Ouch...

Dexy - for the last time...

Holes will have to be drilled. The hole pattern between Cobra and Tuuk are not the same.

There is a big risk involved. Look what happened to Tricky4L...

http://www.1800faceoff.com/prod_selected.i...on=21&shop_id=1 Yup, yup, yup, you sure can. I know alot of guys who have made the jump from perf. to non perf. blades for their Lightspeeds. I did, and I can tell you the difference in weight is negligable and they are much more durable.
