Is it possible to remove a heat transfer from a jersey?

Recommended Posts

A guy ordered a jersey for our team and dropped out without paying for it.

His name is heat transferred to the back of the jersey.

Is there any way to remove the heat transfer without ruining the jersey?

Depends on the type of transfer. The cheap ones come off with steam though it might leave discoloration, the good ones that will stay on are more melted into the fabric in my experience.

You could take it to a local logo/embroidery/screen printing company and ask what they can do, they'd probably be familiar with that sort of thing.

We had this happen, we just tell anyone who asks that the guy really likes soup (Campbell is the name on the jersey, Thorne is the name on the sheet) both are named Bryan oddly enough.

My sons teams always use patches that have the names on them so that they can be removed at the end of the season. Perhaps you could get the new name put on to a piece of fabric - and then have that sewn over top of the old name.

It would be pretty cheap, and you wouldn't risk ruining the jersey trying to remove the old heat transfer.

This is probably your best bet. I think trying to remove the name would be at best a waste of time and at worst ruin the jersey.

another option if the name is not removeable is to have a screen printing shop screen ink over the name which matches the jersey. You can then go ahead and put another name on top of that. It wont look perfect from up close but from far away it will look just fine.

Stahl's, a company that deals with tackle twill and heat transfer materials, makes a product that when applied, actually dissolves the plastic heat transfer name/number without doing any damage to the jersey. Any place that does screenprinting or heat transfer should be able to solve your problem.

there's a chemical that takes off the heat transfer material(film), and usually comes off clean. Not sure what it's called though

Methylene Chloride. And let's just say that it "works" but it doesn't always do a perfect job. Make sure it's used in a well ventilated area. Strong smelling stuff.
