Skate / Holder Pitch

Recommended Posts

I like the pitch of my Vapors with the lightspeed 2 holders. I have some old Graf 704's with the Cobra holder, and like them except for the forward pitch of the skate. I had thought to have Tuuks put on thinking that would change the pitch, but I just read that the pitch of the Graf skate is really in the boot itself and not in the holders. (I find the Graf boot more comfortable and better fitting than the Vapor, except I think the Vapor is a little better fitting in the heel, and again I like the Vapor blades a lot.) Anyone know whether the pitch of the Graf is built into the boot, or is it the Cobra holders, or maybe a little of both?

I swapped out the Cobras with Tuuks, with help from LkptTiger no less, and it was the best move I've made. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

I got the cobras changed out for the lightspeed 2s on my graf 704s, and it's a good difference, but I find I still like my vapor xv's better. The vapors are lighter and have the composite sole (the newer grafs have the composite soles, but mine are a little old), and although the grafs feel real good at first, after skating awhile they begin to cramp my feet a little. I think the 735 would be a better model for me personally, but I think I'll be sticking with the vapors for now. The main thing I like about the lightspeeds on the graf is that the skate isn't so forward pitched now. The shop where I had it changed out said a fair number of people were changing out the cobras or getting them re-radiused. By the way, it looks like the change out wasnt' a big deal; just unscrewing the cobras and putting the tuuks on with the same screws. No new drilling or riviting. I had thought they would have had to drill and rivit, but I guess the holes on the tuuk line up with the cobra holes.

I had my Graf 735 holders replaced with Pitch 3s at LkptTiger's shop as well. I like the steel much better, and as far as the pitch goes, I have reset them back to neutral and am preferring that over the +1, so far. The +1 was too much combined with the boot pitch. Not sure if +1 on the Pitch is greater than the Cobras pitch, but it sure felt extreme.

The holes DON'T line up at all. I'm pretty sure you have mismounted holders.

yea when i put tuuks on my 703's they did not line up.. i had to drill holes..but i found that when i switched the holder the pitch did change slightly...i personally like them better with the tuuks the cobras on the grafs had too much of a forward pitch for my liking...

I only had a second to look this morning, but I think the shop drilled some new holes in the tuuk holders. They look lined up ok, but I'd be concerned about weakening the holders, as I think some of the new holes are very close to the stock holes. I'll check further.

Another question for somemeat and jpb; were the tuuks put back on with rivits, or with the torx screws that go with the cobras? Mine tuuks are screwed on with the torx screws.

That is the other way to do it - drilling holes into the holders themselves, but the problem with that is that the original holes are there for a reason - to minimize stress.

Take some pictures, we can assess it here.
