My 7.1 Onkyo Surround sound just came in the mail today. Basement remodel (for the theatre) will be a 52" Samsung (didn't want to go projector because of bulb life), 7.1 sound, super comfy sofa and a booze fridge nearby.

Pics on their way.

Your pictures of that fridge better look eerily similar to this contraption (for the ultimate theatre experience....)

I got a 52 inch samsung on the weekend. Does anyone else think that when watching some movies it looks like a cheap porno or something? I was watching scarface and it just looked so awkward to me. kind of cheap.

Just put up a new screen to project on in my TV room, the white paper sheeting definitely looks better than the bland white drywall. Thanks for the advice guys.

Alright, I officially hate technology.

Finally went out and replaced the Video card to try this TV set up.

It's a Dell machine...and a G-Force FX5200 card. I hooked it up with S-Video (the only available input on my TV at the moment) and boot the machine...I saw the Dell splash page, and I see the Windows XP splash screen as it boots...then it's like the video card turns off....black screen...I can see the HD light accessing, but I never see a desktop. I tried booting into the CD-Rom that came with the card...I hear that spin up, but again...no picture.

I re-boot and went into the BIOS....the video has chacnged from OnBoard to AUTO...so I know the card is being seen properly by the computer...but not by Windows.

Thoughts?

I think your primary and secondary displays are mixed up in windows display settings. Try having both your TV and monitor hooked up at the same time to figure out the problem.

edit: try hooking up a monitor to both your monitor outputs too, meaning both the new videocard and the old onboard video.

I found it on the NVidia Board...I had to boot it into VGA mode first and then install drivers. It's working now...kinda, But I think I might just re-install windows...I got this machine from work...so there is a TON of stuff on it that is no use to me that slows it right down.

I finally did get this all set up a few weeks ago (I was waiting on a router from a friend). Works well. Unfortunately I'm on S-Video....so the computer stuff is kinda grainy...but once you start a video...the quality is very good.

I video card I'm using has DVI...so if I ever replace my TV (Mine only has 1 HDMI input) I'll have the computer on that as well.

Is $279 the MSRP or best price you've found online? The lamp for my projector is about $400 but I saw it on eBay for about $200.

Well, it was the best BIN price on eBay that I've found so far...

I noticed the exact same thing on a friend's samsung 40" HD LCD. It was the first time i'd ever seen a blu ray movie (Die Hard 4) and while the clarity was amazing, there was something about the movement and overall presentation of the video that seemed cheap or just wrong, like a poor quality downloaded movie or something.

Is this a samsung thing or a blu ray thing? Is it just something you get used to after watching a few blu ray movies or is it something to do with the actual tv set?

Some models of Samsung have Auto Motion Plus 120Hz. It smooths out the motion on screen which is really nice for gaming but not so good for movies. If it is on (and set to high) it makes films look like home movies (too smooth). You just need to turn it off.

Thanks for that information. I'm sure he doesn't know about that feature of his tv yet as it is brand new, and since most of its use has been gaming then it makes sense that he hadn't realised it was on. It really did make the movie look like a home film. Thanks again for the help.
