Inline hockey girdle for ice?

I couldn't find any youth-sized ice hockey girdle for my son. But there are some small-sized inline hockey girdles out there. Can they be used in ice hockey? What's the difference? Thanks.

From my experience of seeing both in the store (never worn or played with an inline girdle), ice girdles provide a much better level of protection, but not nearly as good as ice hockey pants.

Most inlne girdles regardless of quality use only soft foam padding. Whereas an ice girdle will include hard plastic inserts on the hips at a minimum providing a subtantial increase in protection. I would not recommend that you purchase an inline girdle for your son to use in ice hockey for anything other than traning, particularly if he will be playng check hockey or if he is a defenseman trying to block shots. It is just bad news waiting to happen.
