  1. Thanks all for the inputs. I'll take the advice and not to force the switch at this time.
  2. Here's some background on my concern. A year and half ago, my son's skating coach suggested us to replace the skates because they had lost the stiffness with the same sign. My son seemed to have no trouble adjusting to the new skates and his game took off right after the switch. There were other factors at the same time, a new team and new coach. So I can't say for sure it's the new skates. But I wonder if switching to the new skates now could have similar results. However, my son doesn't want to do that. He never wants to change any of his equipment. I have to say that the skates are still in good shape and probably don't have to be replaced. But I don't want to miss any opportunity for potential performance gain. By the way, my son weights less than 170 lbs and never use the top eyelets. So maybe he's right.
  3. The skates are Bauer 2S Pro.
  4. First off, I never skated. My son (18 yo) has been using his current skates for a year and half. They were top of the line Bauer skates but no longer have the same stiffness as in new. There is a noticeable difference when I squeeze both sides on top. I'm worried that it would affect the performance. We already have a new pair of the same model but he refuses to switch. He's going to a USHL camp next month and I don't want this to be a factor. Any advice?
  5. I need to get a new stick to replace the 1X Lite but wonder if I should wait for the next version. Does anyone know when that's coming out? An employee at Pure Hockey said it'll be April.
  6. I'll give that a try next time. Thanks.
  7. Clear tape seems working great! It's no longer loose. I hope it'll stay in place so I don't have to do this too often. 🙂 What a relief. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks for the responses. I did try to search but didn't find anything. I probably didn't do it right.
  9. Not sure if anyone experienced this problem: Bauer fusion edge runner is loose in runner, especially the front portion. I can rattle it with two fingers. The skate is MX3 that's used for over a year. The runners are relatively new. I don't know if it will affect skating but it's definitely causing a concern. Any advice on what to do?
  10. Does 100/50 give similar bite as 90/75? It makes the edges sharper, though not as deep. This is probably where all my questions came from.
  11. Still trying to figure out what FBV profile would work best for us before we start to spend the money. But I'm not very clear on a couple of things. First, this is the part that confuses me the most. Bigger first number means larger flat area, thus better glide. However it also makes the edges sharper, thus more bite. So what gives? How do you compare 90/75 and 100/75? I'm pretty sure I got this part right: Bigger second number means "deeper cut", thus more bite - so 90/75 has more bite than 90/50, thus no as good glide. Now how do you compare 100/75vs 90/50 and 100/50 vs 90/75?
  12. My kid is on 5/8. So I'm thinking about 90/75. Also would the potentially softer ice in spring/summer make any difference in the choice?
  13. People said a lot of good things about FBV. But is it true that younger players, those under 100 lbs, won't get much benefit from it? I'm thinking about letting my kid try it, but don't want to waste the money. Have anyone with young kids tried it? What's your experience? Thanks.
