HAVE QUICK QUESTION ABOUT GETTING INTO CANADA!

My buddy rented the ice at the old barn where the spits use to play for tomorrow night. Problem is I lost my birth certificate, but I do have a legit certificate of birth from the hospital, has a raised seal and everything. I tried to call the border, but they are only open m-f. Does anyone know if this will be ok along with my drivers liscense, or does anyone know a number to contact to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

to get in to Canada it wont be a problem, but getting back into USA it might be different, depending on the officer you get.

...although I will say it's no fun when you don't have said passport. I ended-up crossing the border on a whim with a few buddies a couple weeks ago and neglected to take my passport out of the car (someone else drove) before we left. All I had was my license and a bank card. Three underage kids (one of whom without proper documentation) in a sportscar stuffed to capacity with hockey equipment...you can bet we got some shit coming back into the States (extensively questioned, searched, etc.). Long story short, I'm now "flagged" in the "system" as being "non-compliant" - which apparently isn't TOO big a deal, since I've crossed the border almost everyday since (with my passport, of course) without any issues.

You'll be alright - they might give you a bit of a hard time coming back into The States...but it shouldn't be too big a problem. I cross the border nearly day and I haven't had any issues since ^^^that^^^ day.

The certificate from the hospital should help, though. I'd definitely bring it along. Get a passport ASAP.

We crossed at Sarnia/Port Huron for the MSH Skate...I had BC/Lic., althoma1 had his passport. All the typical questions..."where ya going, when you coming back...any tobacco or alcohol...?

The guy's looking at the computer...glances at the ID's....doesn't even look at me and goes:

him: "Matthew!!!"

me: "Yes???"

him: "Have you thought about applying for a passport yet?"

me: "I knew I wouldn't need it for this trip...but I know I should"

him: "Yes, you should..."

Coming back...same ID's...no questions asked.

I'm hoping the new Licenses are out soon. Mine is due in March '09...

The new "passport card" is out now in the US and is cheaper than a standard passport. You might want to check into that and see if you can get them up north.

I think when they are done here it will be integrated into the lic. I don't think there are plans to do a stand alone card. I will inquire though.
