RBK 8k Helmet Crack where screws for cage connect.

Recommended Posts

My RBK 8k Helmet has two cracks from the center screws in this shape / \ where the cages bolts on. I am a little upset in that it is just over a year old and it by no means goes through any particular stress being a beer leaguer and all. Has anyone else had this happen?

I was thinking that if I could find a used damaged 8K Helmet or even 6K helmet size M that I may be able to swap out that front main piece. Do you think this would work? It should save the expense of buying a new helmet. The rest of the helmet is in great condition.

Lastly. Has anyone had any luck getting RBK to respons to a cracks like this?

Thanks.

try to contact rbk and see if it is an issue that has been around for awhile. i know bauer had a major issuse with the 0004/4000 with the screw holes cracking and they would replace helmets out of warranty because of the cracking issue.

just like was posted earlier, and the problems with the 4000/4500/0004. You gotta be careful when tightening screws and not to over tighten.

4500 has extra plastic in that area, pretty sure they fixed it.

Nice thing about the 4000 with respect to screws was the leather patch on the forehead, didn't matter on those unless you got your 1/2" ratchet handle out. One of the things that disappointed me about my V10 was the cage screws and clips marring the forehead pretty good. Didn't notice it until I stuck a visor on there, I'll take a close look when I go to remount my cage next month.

I was thinking more with the dome screws in the back where that was happening

Yeah, the 4500 is reinforced on the shell for the plastic behind the ears where most cracked. There's a ridge surrounding the screw point.

My 6k and my wife's 8k both cracked, I even took extra care not to over tighten. I learned the hard way when I was younger and broke two 4000's the same way. If anyone gets help from RBK, please let me know how.

Same thing happened on mine and then yesterday I took a shot on the forhead and it then cracked all the way through to the bottom. I glued it up but it's a temporary fix. I pissed. It was such a comfortable helmet and a pro stock as well (a real one, not the monkey crapola). No I'm thinking if I should replace it with the same helmet or get something else.

Have same problem. As a solution installed thin metal plate (smth about 1 cm in height, 5 cm lenth and 2 mm thick) between padding and helmet, bented it so it fitted shape of a hemet and drilled wholes in it agains existing cage mounting wholes. Now there is no pressure on plastic and it works fine so far for me. It steels few mm of spaces in front though - thikness of that plate but it's OK in my case.
