ryan.paquette 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2008 I am currently using Bauer Vapor xxii's and am not very satisfied with my balance and stability. I have heard good thins about kor shit 1 skates and can get them for quite cheap but I have heard they have a short boot. What is the difference between a short and high boot on a skate. What advantages or disadvantages do each have? Thanks in advance.
interpathway 9 Report post Posted December 17, 2008 Short boot will tend to offer you the ability to make quicker and more agile movements, versus a tall boot (one95) which offers better protection.
legiahockey 3 Report post Posted December 17, 2008 i had the kors. feels like big cinder bloks on your feet to me. there not real heavy they just felt dead...idk how to explaian it. you might just need a stiffer boot. my one75's have made me real happy. you could find some cheaper one 90's or even xxxx's on ebay. ive heard only great comments about the xxv's aswell
Chadd 916 Report post Posted December 17, 2008 Shift 1 is stiff enough that most people don't even realize that it's a shorter boot. If you need support six inches up your shin, go find an old Bauer 7000
Hockeydog 8 Report post Posted December 17, 2008 Short boot skates can also offer more forward flex when laced completely to the top as opposed to a taller boot laced completely to the top. More likely you may need to have your skate blades profiled by a knowledgeable LHS, or the skate doesn't fit you well in width or length. Specifically do you feel like you fall forward or backward, or both? Can you get a good ankle roll with the skates or are they always pronated? Do the skates make you feel like your feet are in casts, or do you feel no support at all. How long have you been skating?
ryan.paquette 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 I mostly fall more backwards than forward. i don't get a really good ankle roll at all and I feel no support at all and i"ve been skating for over 10 years and I'm 16 years old now.
Hockeydog 8 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 Falling back could be an issue with a blade profile that is not right for you. Not getting a good ankle roll and saying you don't feel any support from your skate is confusing. I would think if your skates don't support you you'd get all kinds of ankle roll. Jordan 13 Report post Posted December 19, 2008 If you are having problems with your balance and are "falling backwards", seeing that you are on Bauers, I would get tem profiled with a more forwad pitched stance, or have heel lifts put in.
