Chadd 916 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 My dad was very nervous for his first plane trip last week, especially after those recent crashes. I showed him this video of daily air traffic and the probability of actually crashing. Worked like a charm. This is one of my favorite aircraft movement videos. Ha...any idea what the elapsed time was of that?Because so many planes were diverted/landed in Canada on Sept 11...CBC did a special on the small communities that took in multiple planes full of travelers (Gander, NFLD for one...)...there was a great video of an air traffic grid....and watching all the blips disappear as the skies were cleared within a matter of a couple hours.. The amazing thing about grounding everything on september 11th is the fact that nobody had a program in place to handle grounding everything. It was all done "on the fly" so to speak. If there is a security or medical problem, Gander is usually the first place a transatlantic aircraft will land. It's also common for westbound transatlantic 757s to stop there when the winter winds are really blowing.

Hockeyman11385 1 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I don't know if I could ever deal with the stress of being an ATC. That video is a very impressive display on how to handle planes around incoming storms. It is fun to see how the ATC manages it.
