djosbun 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2009 Ouch.......very, very painful having cracked ribs. Your doctor will tell you when you're cleared to play. Don't listen to any of the non-doctors on here.

cougarscaptain87 12 Report post Posted January 20, 2009 id wait as long as possible, i broke 1 rib and cracked 2 or 3, goddamn was that awful. i think i was out for 2 month or 10 weeks i dont remember. the fully broken one was obviously the hold up, but the cracked didnt feel much better then the fully broken one besides the fact that they didnt shift on eachother and end up snagging on the jagged part. take some time to rest, the last thing you want to do is fully break them all. jrhky36 1 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 when i was young and dumb(high school) i played my senior season of football with a seperated shoulder(1st play of the season) broken fingers, 3 cracked ribs (just dealt with the pain and wore a flak jacket). on the last play seperated my other shoulder. if i had been going on to college to play football i would not have played. i should have taken some time off, b/c it really screwed up basketball season for me. but the advise to see your doctor is the best. b/c there is not a whole lot that can be done for cracked/broken ribs. take hte time to heal properly otherwise you'll be like me with a shoulder that pops out every now and then. jrhky36 1 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 when you see your dr talk to him/her about rib padding. i know from experience that flak jackets work if you can deal with the pain.
crazy-luke-finch 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 id wait as long as possibleVery good advise. I dislodged and fractured the growth plate in my hip and ripped all of the muscles from my hip in june of last year. I let it heal all that time, went to see a physiotherapist every week, 3 times a week. I then thought it was all better a couple weeks ago so went and played hockey again, taking it slowly. I did this for about 2 weeks, then last tuesday, i twisted weirdly and now i think ive done it all again, and ive got to go to hospital to see a surgeon about fixing it with surgery so ill probably be out another 7 months this time round. thats 15 months with no hockey :(Long story short, make sure its 100% better, ask your doctor, and be careful and take it slowly when you do start again. Good luck with it.

crazy-luke-finch 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 the worse things are going down to my rink to watch my brother play twice a week, and knowing that for most of time ive missed, my team has been playing with only about 7 players, including the goalie, missing trials for my local ice team, missing the trials for the great britain team and not playing in the B.I.S.H.A nationals, full contact ball hockey league. But to be honest, ive gotten used to it and accepted the fact that I cant play just yet, nothing i can do about it, it's just one of those things.hope we ALL get better soon :)
Dundeestar 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Thats a real bummer Finchy missing out on all those chances, one thing though young man you still have youth on your side so hopefully you will have plenty more trials which im sure you will do well in Good Luck for the future.Looks like this Hockey lark is definatley bad for your health, if you look at the last couple of new threads we have one about a Shoulder injury a Knee injury me and my blooming ribs, we even have a death in the adult leagues. When i am able to play again ill be looking behind me all the time just to make sure that the Old Grim Reaper isnt behind me LOL.Lets hope that what ever injury we have lets all try and get on the mend and kick some ass when we get back on the ice.All the best everyone CHEERS AND BEERS. turc91 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I Broke my Ribs last week... but i don't fell like i;m in the worse pain in my life... sore but nothing all that much... the x ray showed a clear break... it sucks more because i personally fell like i can play. playoffs start in two days, giving myself two weeks before starting practicing. indaslot 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Reebok makes a lightweight performane shirt with built-in rib protectors. Bauer Lightspeed also has removable rib protectors. Obviously the pain will still be there. Also, ribs are in scary proximity to the lungs so make certain you are fully healed! Have you seen an orthopedic surgeon? s4gobabygo 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 definitely listen to your doctor! i had a cracked rib (not a clean fracture, just a hairline crack) in highschool... played all season with it and it never healed properly. now 10 years later it's still sore if i get hit in the right spot. that was a stupid mistake. Cracked a rib and tried to rush back before it was completely healed - big mistake. I tried to rush back in 3 weeks and aggravated the injury. My best advise, for any age is listen to your doctor and pay attention to what you feel. 6 weeks sounds reasonable but if you still feel some discomfort, give it another week. Dundeestar 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I was thinking about going back after about six weeks aswell but i dont think i would of been able to due to still been in a bit of pain, but i now have another health problem, that i am hoping to get over pretty soon, both mentally and pysically, luckily enough i have great support from my Familly, Doctors and most of all my Fiancee, as well as the medication i am taking. One thing that will come out of this is i should be a bit fitter and definatley healthier, and be around a bit longer to enjoy Hockey. epstud74 24 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 I took a slapper on my side last night towards the bottom part of my ribs. Hurts like hell to breathe and walk...I'm definitely going to go back to a more protective shoulder pad than the Bauer Classic..
MEAGHAN 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2009 yeah i broke my ribs last month and had to sit out the finals. Luckily for me, the doctor said 6 weeks or so and i'd be okay and since it kept raining out our games, I have been able to get in extra healing time before the new season starts. Definitely plan on being a little careful with that side for another month though. I agree with one of the other guys though, they really didn't hurt too bad at all. I didn't even know they were broken for a week so i could have done a lot worse damage.
