Graf 703 vs G3 skates fit / difference

Recommended Posts

Hi, my 1st topic here, so hello to the board :)

I am skating in 703 currently, which are getting soft, so I am looking for a replacement. As I am generally pleased with 703, but looking for a better option, logical would be take G3.

My question, for those who used both models, or aware of the fact, if these models have same fit or they are different? Also I wonder if difference in price really worth switching to G3?

I am perfectly aware that's best case is to go and try all they have in LHS. If that would be an option, I would not write these lines now :)

Place I live has just couple of hockey shops with no top line skates on shelvs in my size, you have to order and buy with no try basically. It was a gamble for me with 703, but size 7 worked fine for me.

Thanks in advance!

I recently bought new 703's and had the chance to try on the Ultra G3's as well. I couldn't really notice a difference once I got them on my feet, especially since both models now have the same liner.

I did notice the outsoles on the G3's had some separation from the boot while my 703's did not. Bottom line for me was that the G3 didn't seem to be worth the extra $120.

Very pleased with my G3 Supra's. Had them baked and a small area on the inside of each boot punched a small amount ahead/below the ankle bone. Then put in some yellow Superfeet. Fit is nice and finish quality as well. Mine were a pair of new pro returns from "Sloppy Seconds" himself. How ironic that he may be back with them again in the near future. Next up I'll maybe try a FBV sharpening on them.

where did you find another of Avery's "sloppy seconds?"

A dealer in Canada had them for a decent price. And I had already found that I fit (a local pair) of 703's so I gambled that I was safe buying these after speaking with the dealer and having them confirm some measurements. Plus they hadn't been sharpened yet so there was an opportunity to return them possibly if need be.

What skates did you get? :) I also believe that's where I got my Graf pants from too. Not many places around here even seem to know about Graf. There are only a handful of people that I see skating here on them; maybe less than 10 or so.

May also want to try the G35. My favorite skate for fit

Ok, tnx for suggestion! Btw, can you tell about width of 703 vs 735/G35? According the table it sounds like these models are similar in width, and difference is insteap depth, but as I can't really try them - I am asking all those questions :)

I am OK with 703 regular width, but it could be a bit more space from the top (mid laces area), do I understand right, that "insteap depth" will add more at that particular area, or it's something else? If that's what I think, then it sounds 735/G35 models would suite me better then G3...

Again, thanks for suggestions! :)
