Issues with balance.

Recommended Posts

A bit of back-story: I've been playing inline for almost a year now and am very comfortable on my inline skates. They are Supreme Edge's with the Tuuk One Up chassis, although I don't follow the suggest wheel set up and run all 80's. This makes all four touch the ground while gliding.

On Ice I am wearing the old Nike Quest 2 skates with stock everything. I am wondering if there is a skate ( I am willing to buy new skates) or way to create a more flat feeling on the skates as I am having so much trouble learning the new balance.

You can try to find a blade+holder combo that is flatter and not as radiused, but you will still have the sensation you are experiencing. Perhaps it is not about being flatter, but about the lie or angle of your forward lean? This can be adjusted also by choosing a blade+holder combo and perhaps an aggressive or conservative boot. Maybe you need to bend your knees more to adjust your balance and center of gravity.

I would really try to find out more about your discomfort. It's never going to be second nature to jump from inline to ice. You have to be willing to adjust to certain things. The radiused feeling of an ice hockey skate gives you the advantage of turning and cutting sharper, which is one of the major differences between ice and roller.

Remember that if all four of your roller wheels are flat on the ground, they will have a muuucchhhh bigger radius than your ice hockey skates. When I switched from "street" hockey to ice hockey, I remember basically having to relearn how to skate.

Thats what I'm feeling like right now.

yes it has far more to do with the fact that the blades on ice skates are a small fraction of the width of roller wheels in general; one skill set does not directly transfer to the other.

Had the reverse issue with rollerblades. Felt like I was going to fall on my ass all the time because they are to nuetral. The Sprung chasis helped with that a little.

I still just dont have as much fun playing roller as ice. The game is just slower and I just dont have the same abilities to stop and start quickly. Trying to like it cause its cheaper, so far its not working.
