tonsillectomy

Not sure how old you are but they're tougher to get past the older you get. I got mine taken out when I was 11 and it sucked. All that bullcrap about popsicles and ice cream doesn't do any good when it hurts to take a simple swallow. I ate nothing but oyster crackers dipped in tea for a couple weeks.

I had mine out when I was 18 and was back to work at the radio station in three or four days. The biggest issue for me was coming out of anesthesia as it took a lot to put me out. Something about a high tolerance level...

As a side point, I have noticed that not having tonsils can leave you being more susceptable to sore throats than those around you. Additionally, when you do get hit with a good one, it can end up being pretty nasty.

Its no realy biggie, something to watch out for, as long as you keep any mouthgaurds/retainers/splints/etc extra clean you will be right.

Obviously, they are giving you a lot of grief. Good luck with the operation.

I cant comment on what its like to have them out, because, mine were removed as soon I was old enough (age 4 1/2 I think). I just remember vomitting up kidney basins full of blood and freaking out my mum because of it.

THis is actually interesting. I was told I need to have my tonsils removed, my uvula (hangy thing in back of throat) reduced, deviated septum fixed, and have a LOT of tissue removed from my nose/sinus area. I have a terrible time breathing just sitting watching TV. I want to get this done so I am able to breathe during my games.

I had it done almost three months ago at the age of 22. I was positive that it was most horrendous experience anyone could ever go through in their life (after reading Rustpot's thread on kidney stones, I have swayed from that statement and if you haven't read that thread yet, save it for when you are all healed. It will make you realize how good you had it). It does suck though. Your throat feels like Mark Mcguire hit you with a baseball bat, you can't eat or drink, and its nearly impossible to take your pain medication because you can't swallow. The only way I could take it was to mix it with milkshakes or applesauce. My tonsils really weren't bothering me before but physician said one was enlarged so out they came. I don't notice any difference now that they're out.

In terms of recovery, I felt fine when I came out of anesthesia. It was a friday and I felt I could be back on the ice monday night. Boy was I wrong. The pain killers given to me after surgery started to wear off a couple hours later and thus started a week and a half of pain and misery. At least once its done, there will never be another issue. Good luck.

Had mine out at age 5. Don't remember much about it other than I developed a serious fear of needles thanks to a shitty shift nurse who jabbed me 6 times with the extra thick IV needle before finding a vein.

No idea, but Ive often wondered the same thing when it comes to my sinuses (the doc offered to remove some of my sinus tissue so I could breath through my nose a little better).

It wont necessarily cure the snoring, sometimes that is a soft palate issue.

Having swollen infected tonsils is not a good thing. Sore throats all the time suck, by the sounds of it potentially having more little sore throats will be a step forward.

I have friends who can barely eat when their tonsilitis swell. Even when I have a rude sore throat (the kind the doc gives you medication to cure), im always able to eat. Yay for not having tonsils!

Before mine were yanked out I used to get strep at least once a year. Since then I haven't had it once.

Generally it's the patient's fault if we have to stick you that many times. What'd you do to piss her off? ;)

Perhaps I was holding my stuffed animal too tightly or you know, doing something else a scared kindergardener would do before being knocked out for surgery. I get you're trying to make a joke and all but that shit traumatized me for life, I can't so much as get a blood draw without turing ghost white, sweating like I'm in a sauna, and nearly passing out, god help me keep my lunch down if I've eaten recently....

I had it done in grade 8, as well as having the adenoids removed. It helped a ton, I used to always be sick and I had heavy breathing at a rest (wicked embarassing), and for the most part all symptoms went away.

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was pretty young. I think about 6 or 7. I dont really remember why lol

The ice cream and jello afterward were awesome though.
