Recommended Posts

Alright i know its an old skate but i cannot afford to drop $300 at this time. The lace bite is getting pretty bad. Any solutions?

Make sure that your laces are not twisted. Make a difference and costs nothing (unless you need to buy new laces)

I get it real bad too, i have been using a foam beer coozie cut up to the shape of the front of my foot. it works real well. I have seen players using this for years.

If you have any trashed gear grab some foam out of it (shoulder pads, pants) and cut one down to about the size of where the problem is. have a little foam ankle cover in my bag always, works awesome.

Or buy a sheet of craft foam (costs about a dollar), layer a few pieces together in whatever shape you like and staple them together. Or two larger pieces and shred some of it and stuff the shreds inside and staple it closed, or a mix, or whatever you want to do, donut pad, whatever.

Cheap and effective. Keep a pad with me whenever I skate, just in case (I get lacebite intermittently in one skate, I suspect I took a shot there)

If yr in a pinch & need something quick - use socks.

Back in the day, I would cut the top of my sock off and trash the bottom (foot part). I'd fold the leftover part of the sock and place that on my ankle and lace up as usual. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough for a game or practice. I'd also chew on some Aleve about an hour or so before skating...

I'm not sure how bad your tendinitis is, but when I would get it it looked like I had a growth on my top tendon and it would even bother me in some shoes. Funny enough, it would only...errmm...bloom?...during the end of winter/start of spring. This was in my Bauer days too... Switched over to the Tacks line and didn't use the top 2 eyelets after the switch & I never had lace bite again. More of a function of forward lean & a better fitting boot I guess.

......

If I were to get lace bite today; I'd probably start lacing differently & tape the outside of the boot if I needed more support. I'd maybe even get some heel lifts too. The big tendon that runs on top of your foot is what is inflamed and when you bend your knees to get a good stride, your ankle bends also. Its obviously having a war with your laces and the only loser will probably be the boot. Look into heel lifts or a new profile AFTER you experiment with lacing and a roll of tape.

Treat the problem - not the symptom.
