Dear modsquad heavy weights I need ur 2 cents

Recommended Posts

Before I start I have been a loyal Graf user for the past 6 years and when time came that I needed a new pair I went to the same lhs. I have always worn wide width and they didn't carry my prefered skates in stock g7 so they orders them out of Graf for me. I told the guy who works there that I wanted a wide width because I've always wore wide but he ordered regular. "I think if u get wide they might be too big and we can't do anything about that so I'll order u regular" my skates had to be baked and stretched 6 times but they always shrink back to regular width. Now the skates are ripped from the back where the ankle flexes and they eyelets have ripped out wen I was tying up the skates. I shipped them back to Graf Canada where they are being repaired at no cost but Graf emailed me saying the wrong size caused the skate to brake down. The worst part is I was overcharged for theese skates.

This stinks.

I don't see a question in there. Personally I would have never accepted the skates if they wouldn't order them in the size I wanted.

I had a similar experience where the shop told me that the skates I wanted to wear were way to small. I wear a 10 1/2 shoe and wanted to wear a size 8 9k. They tried for quite a while to convince me that it was to small. Eventually I gave up and went somewhere else because they were being so uncooperative. I ended up going to another shop, getting 8's and I couldn't be happier!

yeah, there's absolutely no reason you should have forked over money.

unfortunately with graf, you cant exactly run up the street. you should have demanded to see the manager when you found out the employee over rode your selection.

No matter what someone else says, If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Stick to what you know. I learnt that after going from Vapor XX to KOR S1's. A few mths later I bought my ONE90's and never looked back. To me sticking to the right brand and skate type for my foot is what paid off the most. Love the cuts and turns I now get.

Hate to be a jerk, but I agree that you shouldn't have bought them if they weren't the right size.

I'd also go back to that LHS and let the manager/owner know about the incident. While they probably won't get you new skates it will help make sure you're treated better in the future.

Ya that's what I was thinking it's my fault but I think I just should by a new pair even though the are being repaired because I was warned by Graf that they would run into more problems . Looks like I'll have to look online this time and do it on my own.

Why would you look online? Go back to the LHS and make sure they order what YOU want. Don't lay down beacause some kid with a power trip wants to decide what you wear.

Sack up Nancy!

If Graf volunteered to fix them, they should be able to re-last the boot for you. If won't get you a full extra width up, but it'll make a significant different.

I've had it done with shoes during a complete re-soling; stands to reason they could do it with a skate if they're tearing it apart already.

I agree and disagree. Give them a call or go talk to them, and see how willing they are to make amends. If they give you any trouble why give them any more of your business. I'm not recommending any online shop, but go to another place where they will listen to your needs.

The exact same thing happened to me. Exact. With different skates though. I had to be firm about what I wanted and then they listened.

I guess the only question I have is why did you buy the skates if you knew you needed a Wide? Did you feel pressured by the sales person, thinking he knew better than your foot?

I would explain to the manager of the LHS what Graf told you, and ask them to order you a replacement pair in the correct width -- in exchange for the repaired skates from Graf -- as you did not get what you asked for originally for (and felt pressured to make them work???). The worst that can happen is that they say no. If they don't replace the skates, perhaps they will at least sell them to you at cost so they don't lose any money, and they keep you as a customer.

Otherwise, you can try to sell them and then start all over again. Your feet will thank you.

i agree with flyerman. see if you can get them to order you the right size and give them back the repaired pair that comes back from graf. they can probably sell that pair and not take a big hit on getting you the proper width skate.

I've had the same issues buying my skates. They measure my feet and tell me I don't need a wide in the skate I'm buying. Although I respect the LHS's opinion I personally KNOW a wide or E width is much better on my feet when it comes to overall comfort. This knowledge has come from many years of experience from buying the brands of skates I like. I have an issue with my right foot being slighly wider and longer than my left but even if I get a wide it doesn't effect the performance of my left foot on the ice. I refuse to pay even more money for a custom made set of skates because a decent set of skates are expensive enough without adding the extra cost of customizing them and the hockey I play doesn't warrant that kind of expenditure.

In short, when I go into a shop to buy a new pair of blades, it's ME that makes the final decision on the width of the skate according to the way I know they should feel on my feet. Experience has always been the best teacher in my life.
