Getting my girlfriend a pair of skates...

Recommended Posts

My girlfriend is taller, and thinner. She's 5' 5" and weighs as much as the Dolomite Spyne. Just kidding about that one. She needs a size 4.5 or 5 Jr Male Skate. Please reccomend me a pair of decent beginner skates for an average width foot. I've looked at some older Bauers with the ICM, should I get those and shell out for Tuuk LS2 Holders/Steel?

Even though you might be a MSH gear whore, she probably isn't and won't realize the difference between LS2's and Pro-Lites. The best thing you could do is get a nice pair of older model skates for her. Hockeyworld.com has quite a few in her size, maybe use that as a starting point.

Bauer Pro 650's it is then. Along with a 15 dollar barrel wood stick. together its like 40 bucks shipped. I'm not a gear whore by any stretch, actually a bargin binner if you will. I play outdoor shinny have a Crosby Sig RbK Wood Stick, a pair of Supreme One05's (sz. 9 R) and a pair of CCM V02 gloves. I believe she'll really like them, and it's a good thing those 650's come in whole sizes only, just incase she does become a true 5. She is a 4 and 1 / 2 and I know how skates fit from experience, i'm really an 8 and 1/2. :)

I tried convincing my ex of getting Vapor XXX's when she was shopping for a set to skate with me at the pond. They were only $50 (used at the LHS), but she wasn't having that. I think they were 4.5 juniors actually.

A low end skate with some give will be just fine I would imagine. So long as there are no hot spots or foot compatibility issues you're golden.

Chick feet arent the same as small men's feet, so it may not be as easy as buying her a Jr skate.

If Mission still sells the AG-W, it may be worth trying to find one if Jr skates dont really fit. Its the only women's skate I have found that is still listed on a manufactuer's site.

I would consider getting mission, but I had a pair, and they fell to pieces in about a month. Worst Skates ever. I had the cheapest pair available at the time, I can't remember the name. I'm currently in a pair of NBH Skates, and they are the most comfortable durable skates I've ever been in. She's a size 8 Women's. How would an 8 Women stack up to a women's skate? Subtract 1 1/2 like a regular skate?

I'm sure it depends on the skate, but for me I wear about a 9.5 womens (anywhere from 9-10, depending on the shoe and the brand) and my skates are a size 7 EE Mission (which have held up just fine so far, btw).

Women's sizes are generally 2 sizes larger than then the "equivilent" men's size, if I remember rightly. I tend to go by the euro size as its non-gender specific and tends to be the same across manufacturers and countries.

Does anyone know if Mission inline and ice skates are equivilent sizes?

Cheers, Ill add those to my list of skates to look for on ebay.

I really appreciate the help, but I'm thinking a pair of men's Bauer's may fit the bill. My girlfriend and I have similar feet structures and Men's Nike/Bauer Skates seem to fit the bill for me. I believe I'm going to fetch her a pair of Bauers. I don't think I would be able to understand the differences between Women's and Men's skates. It's difficult enough finding the difference between skate brands, because i'm an 8.5 bauer, 9 CCM, 10 Mission, and a 8.5 RbK

Every girl I know who plays hockey wears men's skates (albiet senior sizes). Women's skates are just something to keep in mind if Jr skates dont fit propperly.

If she has a wide foot, spend some time hunting through the Jr skate ranges. Some models come in regular and wide widths. If she has a pair of crosstrainers or running shoes, you can generally find more detailed information on those. If she has a wide foot, there should be a W for wide on the label (or at least that is what you find in Oz).

Good luck!
