Pants with a shorter fit?

Recommended Posts

this is pretty much how all my equipment fits, short and wide...elbows pads, shins, and to a certain extent my skates too.

i'm now on the search for a new pair of pants, but i wear a relatively short inseam, pants size is 36/29. last pants i wore was an old pair of tacklas(size 52) i bought when i was starting hs nearly 20 years ago, they almost still fit as a matter of fact. but even then, they were a touch long. i'm leaning towards a pair of tackla 951's in either a size 52 or 54 -2", but i'm hesitant since i'm unable to try them on and i'll take a nice hit on shipping both ways.

i'd like to know if any particular companies or lines are made a bit on the shorter side. not exactly looking for a ton of protection(playing adult rec league), so not looking into getting top of the line custom stuff although i don't mind splurging a bit to get the right fit. i still do want enough protection though for those times when i inevitably fall hard on my ass or take an errant puck to the thigh.

i'm not a brand nazi so any and all rec's will be consider. thanks!

i'm in the same boat. i'm a pretty short guy so i was gonna get the tackla 951 48 -2. unfortunately my LHS told me it would be about 12weeks before i had them from the time they ordered them. i ended up getting some ccm 692. not the shortest pant.. but slightly shorter than the standard length tackla 951...

Mission pants had a nice feature that would allow you to use a second set of buttons to shorten up the pant length. I sold a ton of them to guys that needed the extra girth.

I'm the opposite, needing a little extra length in the legs but out of all the pants I've tried the Tacks were the shortest.

NBH seemed to be rather long as far as retail offerings go.

thanks for the info! i noticed that this feature is only available on their top 2 pant lines, the 120 and 110. obviously i would lean toward the 110 as the 120 would be way overkill for my needs(even the 110 seems to be a bit more than i need), but i was curious how good the mobility is with these? any complaints in your shop?

i also noticed salming offers a pant with this feature, any input on them?

Never saw the Salmings with that feature, just about everyone that tried the Missions, bought them. Other guys went cheaper and suffered through an off fit to save $20. Then again, I think anyone that blames mobility problems on pants are whiners.

Not calling you a whiner, just some of the guys that have actually said pants restrict them too much in the past. Last Sande pants I saw were terrible, still have them in the closet. Good to know they changed designs.

I have a pair of Missions (from last year) that are adjustable. I think they're the 110s. They have two sets of snaps so that you can hang the thigh pads at 2 heights, but the default is already on the shorter setting. In other words, you can adjust them to make them longer, but you can't make them any shorter than they already come. Unless they've changed the design or I missed something, I don't think they'll necessarily help out shorter players (the shorter setting was already too long for me).

I ended up getting a pair of Reebok 6K pants - the adjustment on those pads is velcro, so you can make them both shorter and longer.

your input is greatly appreciated. looks like i'll be looking into the 6k and maybe the ccm v06.

They used to ship on the longer set of buttons, guess they changed that.

I just got a Fuel 120's a few weeks ago when hockeygiant had them priced at $29.99, mine came on the longer set of buttons. the6252, based on how they fit me in size L (I'm about a 35/30), the length should be perfect on the upper buttons. As to the level of protection, and them being overkill or restricting mobility, I don't think that's an issue at all with these pants. In the two games I've played with them, I haven't even noticed that I had a different pair of breezers on (coming from Easton Synergy 300s which are pretty low end and sparsely padded), the weight difference is negligible and the 120's are a very mobile pant. Of course you need to try them on to really know if they are for you, but if that's not an option, I highly recommend them for what you're looking for.

lol, thanks for adding to the confusion. guess the 110's are back on the table, unfortunately, i don't think anyone around here carries them.

Tackla makes a short and a long verzion of their pants in a couple of different models. I think they are a little more expensive but if you want something to fit extra short it would really be worth a shot. The short version of the pants are called the husky version, and are available in the 9000 pant for sure and I am kind of sure they come in the 5000 pant as well.

Ha! Sorry about the contradictory info - I think I've gone through the same cycle of clarity/confusion/clarity etc. when looking through many of these threads myself.

I think in this case, I'm probably shorter than you are (inseam is around 27"), so that's why even the higher set of snaps on the 110s were still too long for me. And mine definitely came with them on the shorter setting already, but who knows - maybe someone tried them on and changed them from the factory setting.

At any rate, I'm pretty happy with the 6Ks. The thigh pads are much less bulky than the 110s - a little more like a girdle. Weight, heat, mobility are all fine. Protection is good. I had a problem on the leg zippers on an older pair that I had, but I've worn my current pair for over a year playing weekly, and they've held up.

Try a Tackala, probably your best bet. Im 5'10 and i have 25 inch legs, and they dont fit me bad at all. Another option would be find a pair of rbk 5 or 8k you can adjust the leg length, just stay away from the new 9k's there unwearable there that uncomfortable. I have a 32 in a pair of 9000 air and there pretty short legs actually, i was going to go with a 36 for some extra room but i couldn't move in them really and couldnt keep them on.
