Mission AG-X stiffness

Recommended Posts

How does the stiffness of the Mission AGX skate compare with the Vapor XXV?

Also where in the AG series does the AGX rate for stiffness? Thanks for any input !

I'm also curious about the fit and stiffness on this skate. They are $249 locally here, which seems like a decent price.

I'm a big guy, so need some support.

Are the E/EE width Mission skates comparable to other E width skates.

How do they compare in depth to Easton or the Bauer supreme line.

Cheers

I don't know about AG-X but I have tried on the Mission Wicked skates at hockeygiant which are supposedly a AG-X SMU, they are listed as E width, but are nowhere near the width of my 10.5W Easton 800C's. It was wasn't even close to fitting width-wise, almost painful from the start. I can't really compare to the newer Bauer supremes as I haven't tried any on. They do feel a little wider than D width 7000's, feel about the same width as some D width 1052 Tack's I tried on recently. Anyway, they Wickeds are definitely a narrower skate, even in E width.

I'm confused now, because I have Supreme 30, and Easton Ultra Lite, and I consider the Ultral light a little wider in the foot than the Supreme, which should be similar to the 7000 (in width).

I've also tried on tacks, and found them wider than the easton or bauer, but you are saying the Wicked are wider than the 7000's, the same as the tacks, but much narrower than easton wide fitting.

Sorry, I reading it over my post was confusing, this is how I would rate the skates in width, from narrowest to widest:

Narrowest ---- Bauer 7000 10.5 D < Mission Wicked 10.5E ~= Tacks 1052 10.5D < Easton 800c 10.5W ----- Widest

So I would say The Wicked E width is about the same as Tacks D width in my opinion. It definitely does not feel like a WIDE skate as the E would normally signify.

I'm thinking that AG-X in D = Wicked in E as the AG-X come in EE not E.

If it would help, I would gladly run by hockeygiant this weekend and try a few skates on and let you know how they compare in regards to the Wickeds.

While I appreciate the offer, it's not necessary at all, but thanks. They have the skates in my LHS. I've been putting a couple of bob away each week to get new skates, but I can't afford top of the line ones, so I'm looking down a step. I also don't want to waste the shop employees time by trying on skates that are going to be a bad fit anyway, but at the same time, I'm going to try to get as many possible skates that I can on my feet.

These may be borderline, so I can just try them on up there. D fit tacks are fine width wise for me.

I was told by my LHS that AGX runs narrow in comparison to past Mission (he was generally saying the 120AG), and that didn't even carry a D width.

I picked up a pair of AG-X on drastic clearance discount (214 I think it was; plus yellow superfeet) but have yet to bake or skate in it. Coming from a Mission S-500 in D, the width in the forefoot area (before toebox) feels about the same to me.

Can anyone comment on the stiffness of the AGX? Just by trying to squeeze them and other skates at my LHS the AGX feel stiffer than a One75 or Vapor XXXX.

the AGX runs a touch wider through the heel than the AG line. Stiffness is comperable to the XXV until you get to the upper cuff of the boot where it is less stiff like the AG series and a touch shorter than the Vapor line. Love my AGX's, tried both them and the Vapor XXV on and went with the AGX for the lesser price and lower cut boot.

What about depth, are they a shallow boot or do they fit deep?

In general, the Vapor XXXX and the One 95's (and probably One75) are going to be some of the stiffest skates you can buy retail. I haven't seen anything at my LHS that's as stiff....
