Todd White

Is it just me or is Todd White one of the most under rated players in the league? Hes a solid center for a poor team putting up pretty good almost point a game numbers and half the people i bet on here haven't even heard of him.

I used to call him "Mr Invisible" for the Wild, good two way player with talent around him but nothing too impressive on his own. Maybe he was just not flashy at all, but I don't miss him.

He doesn't fit the mold that teams look for in their centers. He is neither big, nor fast, nor shifty and agile, nor very gifted with the puck and he doesn't score at an elite level or check at an elite level. He is a tweener. Not strong enough offensively to skate on a #1 or #2 line, but not strong enough defensively to skate on #3 line and too good but not hard enough hitting to skate on a #4 line.

He reminds me of Marc Savard with about 2/3rds the offensive talent.

He had a few solid seasons six to seven years ago, then plateaued around 40 points, so I'll attribute this season to the guy who plays LW on his line.

Damn good hockey player - just not obviously so. I got to watch him a fair bit back when he was in Ottawa, and he was the definition of an under-the-radar player. Even when he scored, your first thought was, "Oh, nice play to set that up; a chimp could have potted that one," or "D blew that..." Look a little closer and you'd see a guy who quietly knew where the play was going and got there first, or saw hole in the coverage and went there with purpose.

Do I think he's the next Marc Savard? Not a chance. Would be be a really smart pick-up for a team lacking depth down the middle if Atlanta decides to rebuild? Hell yes.

Yeah he's a good third line center who can play 2nd line in a pinch. We ditched him for Eric Belanger, who's not outstanding but is still an upgrade offensively. White is a better defensive center in my opinion. Both are fringe guys who couldn't step up to being true second line centers but still have enough offensive upside to avoid being checkers.

I never meant to imply he could be the next Savard. Just similar players in size, aggression levels and defensive abilities. Todd White is nowhere near the same level in offensive talent. And at 33, he has likely peaked. He is reasonable defensively and can pot 40-50 points with average linemates and 60-70 with 1st line linemates. With Kovalchuk, it looks like he has a long shot at 80 points.

Belanger is bigger and faster and has the advantage of being from Quebec. That seems to be important to the Wild.

I think you're bang on the the 2/3rds of Savard, actually.

Quebecois players are important to the Wild for one reason: their coach.

Do you tink it could be because dey don't make fun of his accent?

for all the French Canadians out there, I kid, I kid. My hockey coach growing up looked like Lemaire with about 60 more pounds and a little more hair. I still automatically pick up my pace at whatever I'm doing when I hear "Tabernacle" or "Sacre Bleu"

He can put up good numbers on a bad team but you aren't going anywhere if he's your number two center.
