Getting back into roller hockey looking for a sturday skate

Recommended Posts

I would like to say love the forums read alot of great info on here. I float around 280 im 6ft 5 Im concerned getting a new pair of skates that the chassis wont loosen up on me. I would like to stay around 200-250 bucks on them. Like I said just getting back into roller looking for some opinions. I already know i need hard wheels.

You may want to consider looking for a closeout price on last years ice hockey skates (supreme 90 or 70 if you have a bauer foot) as they are much stiffer and will last longer. From there you would obviously need a chassis, wheels and bearings...

$0.02 for now.

You'll want to find what type of boot fits your foot best first. The sturdiness of the boot will matter little if you never wear them because they don't fit your foot. If you have more of a wider foot, Tour has many good boots. Mission tends to fit a bit narrower foot, although I have not tried their new line of boots. Others love RBK and CCM boots. You may be better off looking for a higher end model boot left in stock from last year. You can always install t-nuts and screws to hold the chassis on if you pop out a rivet (assuming you are concerned about that from your original post).

I have a buddy your size who's in these skates and loves them : http://hockeygiant.com/tourcd1exsktsr.html

The all-80 frame is probably a good thing for a bigger guy too since you'll have more wheel area to work with.

Thanks man I just am really worried about the rivots loosening up on me. Ill check those out seen them before.

Thanks yeah i have very wide feet. So tour may be good for me. And yeah I am most worried about the chassis staying on. keep it coming thanks alot guys.

Are the newer tour skates as solid?

the newer Tours seem hit or miss qualitywise, some people have great luck and others have been left dissatisfied within months. Hockeymonkey has the Lieutenants from last year in EE width, ultimately though you'll need to try some skates on and see what feels best.

Yeah im gonna have to find a place and drive to try some there is nowhere in this town that sells nice inlines. We have a really nice outdoor rink but no shop yeah go figure. I been looking at missions also. Any advice on what they should feel like when i try them on? Also whats the deal with baking does that helps break them in or what. Never did that before.lol I also wish i could swap out the stock wheels for harder ones instead of having to buy them on top of skates.

Hey man,

I'm actually exactly your size... 270 6'2 built like a mack truck lol...

I've got the 2008 Mission Boss...you can get them for 320 at hockeymonkey. if you can spring the extra 70 or so bucks, they're very worth it. I played a season on them and I play pick up at least twice a week. And the Hyper trinity wheels that come stock are good. I played with them outdoors and I actually went softer to play indoors. So instead of paying 250 and another 70 to change out the wheels, it would be worth the money to spring for these if the fit is right.

I also just picked up a pair of tour Cobalt Q's because I cant find anything better to spend my money on lol... I actually find that these feel a little narrower than my missions, but they're a GREAT skate, just a little pricier than you're looking. The tour's are very good if you can find a pair that fit.

Bottom line: Get to a shop and try them on.

As for baking: Great idea. Do it right away and you shouldnt have any problems breaking the skates in within a few sessions.

thanks for the info man nice having people my size telling me whats been working for them. Im leaning towards the tours they seem to have beefier chassis in them but i gotta get to shop and try some on. thats the thing that sucks about not having a shop in town. I hear ya on spending a bit more.
