Rubber gloves?

Recommended Posts

Lunqvist.jpg

Caught this during the TSN intro to the game tonight. Not sure if you can tell...but they looked taped around the wrist...which makes me think those stay on in his gloves during the game...Does he have a cut or injury he'd be protecting...or is Lunqvist of germophobe?

I saw those on TV and wondered the same thing. The goalie in my adult hockey league wears a baseball batting style glove on his catching hand, they could be the same thing.

I'm pretty sure they're either batting gloves (although the one on the stick-hand would be curious, in that case) or some sort of therapeutic heat-glove to keep his hands warm.

One might be an old fav he hangs on to..or one might have some special mods done to it to protect a certain injury or soft spot. Or one is for games and one for practice that he might not need excess padding for or Vice Versa his practice is more protective so he don't get hurt, and Game is more mobile.

I played in Spain for a while, and most of the goalies and players alike wear really thin fabric gloves for a couple of reasons.

1. To prevent their hands from turning black from the inside of the gloves (if they wear black gloves)

2. To prevent nasty smell on hands

3. To keep hands warm

I looked at them funny, but I noticed later on the ice that my hands were stinky and cold...

If any of you guys watch Kenny vs Spenny in the who can make more money episode a friend of theirs pays for air time to talk about a product called "sweat hogs" or something like that made to absorb sweat, bacteria, etc. Never seen or heard of them elsewhere but these look identical if I remember correctly.

There's a TPS inner glove made specifically for goalies. I'm sure those are it. I used to wear these cheap cotton gloves my dad would get from work. It'd keep the sweat, color and smell away from my hands.

I stopped using them once I got a new set of gloves though.

Edit - searching google....the TPS gloves look different.

There's a guy I skate with that wears what looks like black Rubber gloves under his player gloves. I keep meaning to ask him about them, I play against him tomorrow night, I'll try and get the scoop

A friend of mine uses white latex gloves (usually the powdered kind) to keep the stink out of the gloves and off his hands. I personally just use the gloves the way they are.

Im not so much worried about the stink (thats part of the contract you un-consciously sign when you become a hockey player), I was thinking it might give a player more grip for their stickhandling.

I also wore batting gloves for a short time after getting the idea from Vanbiesbrouk so many years ago. I thought it helped collect sweat away from my gloves and liked the extra grip it gave my small hands in the blocker. I still wear sweat bands on my wrists and bandana low on my forehead. Might try that Sham Wow strip iwith the bandana thing.
