New helmet break in time?

I don't know, this may be a dumb question...

So I got a 5100 helmet. After trying on a few brands/sizes in the shop I chose the 5100 in Small. I have worn a Medium in the 5000 and Itech HC95. In the 5100 the Med. felt sloppy, the Sm. felt good but was a little narrow. It wasn't uncomfortably narrow, the helmet feels good and secure. Playing last night I felt a lot of pressure on my right temple and got a headache.

So my question is, will the padding break in after a bit?

Or is the 5100 just too narrow for me?

Overall I like the helmet, it's light, air moves well enough through it and it doesn't give that mushroom head look.

By the way, don't suggest shaving the padding, I am not going to do that.

it will break in, give it a few times out and that should work. the foam needs some time to work in. i've worked with the 5100 and it will break in

Ive used mine 6-8 times since purchase and its starting to break in. No more pain on the sides of my head.

Your head will swell a little bit while playing. Try expanding the helmet out just a little bit and see if that helps...

My 5100 did the same thing Monday night... my temples felt like they were crushed, and ended up with a headache that kept me up until almost 2am. I'm hoping it opens up a bit after use....the rest of the lid fits great, just the temples.

If you have a cage it may be too small and is putting preasure on the temple guards, try bending it (the cage) open a bit.

My cages (Fantom and an 8500) are Med and a little too wide for the helmet. I ordered a small fantom, still a little too wide and just touch too short on my face. I keep my regular cage (the M Fantom) on it with the cage in the j-clips when not on my head, I doubt that will help. Oh and the helmet is open as far as it can go.

Like I and others have said, I was just wondering if the padding would conform after using it for a bit. I hope it does, if not, I'll have to keep on trying some new helmets out. I tried on a 6k, which was nice but I didn't like the padding. That shop only had like 2 4ks both of them large.

I'll give the 5100 a chance before i give up.

I had the same issue on my 5100... felt a little narrow at first. After about 10 games and some decent exposure to the flesh eating bacteria living in my hockey bag, the padding broke in nicely. I suggest you give it a couple more weeks.

Maybe the helmet does not fit?

My head swims all throughout the helmet, with the exception of the temple area. I'm using the cage that came on the combo, ftr.

If it swims, it probably doesnt fit your head properly as well.

That's the problem with being asian (i'm asian)! Heads are wider than most and expanding helmets never helps the width, just the length and height. If you can't stand it (I can't stand it), try an RBK helmet. They fit wider than everyone else's helmets.

lol i'm asian but i have a tiny head...but for some reason a rbk helm fits me real well and bauers don't...i ended up with the easton though...perfect for narrow heads
