Glove question / bauer 4 roll

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen the bauer 4 rolls in person, but was interested in them, but there are two things I have questions about. First, I read that they're somewhat heavy, on account of all the protection. I'm not a fanatic about weight, but don't really need a lot of protection at the level I play at, and I've see sometimes that extra protection also makes gloves much less flexible. Second, I happened to try on a pair of Eagle x71i's, and they were great, and if it wasn't for them being much more expensive I probably would have gotten them. So, my question is, how much heavier / cumbersome are the bauer gloves as opposed to the Eagle gloves?

If you tried them both on you should be able to answer that question yourself. If protection is not a priority for the level you play at, why are you considering top end Eagles? It is great how light Eagles are and it is great how much protection the Bauer 4 rolls offer at the price. I am sure you could find mid to low end gloves that are light, though.

OP said they haven't seenthe 4 rolls in person. +1 on not going for the Eagle gloves especially if you're not at a higher level of play. I have a pair of the 4-rolls and I really like the palms and they do offer a good deal of protection. To be honest I thought they would be kinda bulky but after the first or second time I skated with them I didn't even notice.

Being at a high level of play shouldn't mean he shouldn't get high end gear. If he's got the extra cash to do so, why not? It's certainly not gonna make huge differences in his game, but if the comfort is worth the price, why not?

I find 4rolls much heavier compared to an Eagle tufftek PPF.....

Agreed. I bought both (bought the 4-rolls first, then decided I wanted the PPF more.) The 4-rolls are a fantastic glove for the price. Very comfortable, great protection, but definitely on the heavier side. They have a great, roomy fit. I didn't play in a game with them, but I find it highly unlikely they'd be cumbersome.

The PPF I ordered are amazing. About $70 more expensive, but close to the same level of protection and unbelievable feel show where the extra cost went. They are ridiculously light and the MSH2 palms are like butter.

I'm not sure if the X71i has MSH palms or not. All in all, you won't go wrong with the 4-rolls. A lot of players swear by them. There's a noticable weight difference, but nothing to be an issue with them.

I've had gloves that are nearly 600 grams and some that are less than 300 grams... You don't notice the weight difference after you initially put them on. Materials, fit and design are certainly things you notice.

The X71s will fit differently than the PPFs and the 4-rolls. Eagles also have shorter fingers than NBH/Bauer gloves. I can barely use a 14" Eagle, in fact its rather uncomfortable but a 14" Bauer glove fits my finger length nicely.
