The KHL passes on Tavares

Recommended Posts

I'm pissed to see Stefanovich go 2nd overall. It seemed like he might not go back to the Q because he'd be an overage import which is apparently not common. I was hoping to see him with the Marlies, but him being drafted so high indicates he must be at least willing to entertain offers from the K.

Tulusty was 'drafted' as well. 43rd (I think).

I don't think you'll see many, if any, North American kids heading off the Russia to start their pro careers.

The only ones I could see even thinking about going over are guys who aren't eligible for the NHL draft for another year, i.e. Taylor Hall. He is seen as the #1 pick in next year's draft already, and could go to Russia and make a few million easy. Still, I doubt that happens.

But don't they have to sign a 5 year deal with the KHL so it eliminates the ability to jump back after a year.

if 17yr old guys could get a one year deal sure but...

QUOTE

Apparently, Medvedev informed the union chief the KHL will hold its first 17-year-old player draft next month. Those players will sign five-year deals with the KHL teams that select them. In the five years after that, those players will be considered restricted free agents with their Russian teams able to match any contract offer from NHL or European teams around the world. The bottom line is that KHL teams, theoretically, could hold on to these players through the age of 27.

(from CHADS post KHL=Extortion)

I can't see guys with any real hope of playing in the NHL to go play in Russia. If all that they have to do is match the countract offer from a NHL team they probably will. They basicly have to sign a 10 yr. deal

Does anyone care? Are they a serious threat to steal away NA players?

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=280568

No and no. And this comes from a fan of the KHL and Russian hockey in general. As much as I love to watch KHL, they will never compete with the NHL. What Canadian kid who can be drafted high inot the NHL would go play in Russia? They may steal away some European prosepcts like Stefanovich, but thats about it

Theres a pic floating around of crosby sleeping with the cup. Tell me what kid is going to pass up that opportunity to play in russia?

well if you care to know... the KHL champs get to sleep with their choice of the finest russian prostitutes plus a 60 lb'er of premium stoli.... tough call if you're not really into the whole trophy thing.

Granted, I would ABSOLUTELY put the stanley cup next to me in bed, but who is taking pictures of crosby sleeping. I think Ms. Bettman better check the memory card.
