Backyard shooting area

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to pick up a 4' x 6' ice hockey net and set up a temporary shooting area in the backyard this summer. I've tracked down a used hockey net but I'm still looking for backstop ideas. There is a older fence at the back of the property which I don't want to hit because it will surely break. I need some sort of netting taller and wider behind the hockey net.

I noticed something similar to what I'm looking for in this

(50 sec mark). Any ideas what this is or where to find one?

Here is my backyard where I plan to put the net. The length of the yellow line is 16' wide and I'd be shooting from cement which is just cut out of the photo. If you guys have any suggestions as to what I should get please let me know. (taken from the 2nd floor)

only thing i can add is get a sheet of HDPE/tape2tape/some other slick plastic to shoot from. your hockey sticks will thank you.

I'd probably got the cheap route and pick up a volleyball net or something (may not be long enough though)

I also shoot in my back yard, and use fishing net tied to two trees similar to what your photo is of. All take a picture tomorrow to show you what my set looks like.

And yes i know my net is blue, it was all rusted and blue was all i had...

All netting on the right side incase there is a deflection off the post, Neigbours car is usually park with 10 feet

I used to have a shooting surface but I was already planning to get some new HDPE. 14' wide and 8' tall would be about the size of netting I'm looking for but I need a way to make it temporary.

Agreed. And you can attach some pulleys to the trees to lower the netting when you are done.

Go to Army-Navy and they have these 30x20 sturdy fishing type nets that you can buy. If I remember correctly I paid about $35 last year for one.

I am considering setting up a shooting area also, need advice...

I use a golf net behind my goal. It works great.

What kind/brand? How much? Available online?

Where are you located? Do they have a website that I can order online?

I think he means any Army/Navy store. I know there has to be at least 6 of them in RI.

I acquired an old trampoline enclosure.I then cut it at the opening. From there I hung it in the garage in a "U" shape with the goal at the bottom of the "U" and the shooting platform at the opening. I now have a shooting alley that catches the wide shots and the high shots and protects the windows and other junk in the garage. I shoot off an old piece of boards. Seems to work pretty good.

Ever scince I went through the Dry wall in the garage I haven't been allowed to shoot without a soccer net behind the hockey goal.

Let's just say I had to mow a lot of lawns and score keep a lot of games to learn my lessons with shooting at home.

4 broken tail lights (2 times freak accidents with the post.

1 Massive hole in the wall.

7 flower pots smashed.

1 no longer in use GIANT aquariam

I even shoot from the other end of the driveway I still manage to break the massive amounts of crap we have lying around in my garage.

I just built a goal and was talking about it at the rink, and they gave me a roll of the old netting from above the glass. It's probably 10'x60'. You may ask around at the rinks in your area. Mine had at least 5 rolls just sitting there. They said they had been meaning to throw it away.
