Is Tuuk a separate company or does Bauer own/manufacture Tuuks?

Recommended Posts

The reason I ask is if I can order Tuuk Lightspeeds without holes that are predrilled for the appropriate Bauer rivet holes? I tried to drill holes in a Tuuk lightspeeds that lined up with my Graf Ultra 735s RMS Screw holes because I figured I would rather have my holders look like swiss cheese then my skates. Plus it didn't cost me a thing. It would have been alot easier if I had a Tuuk that didn't have any holes in them.

But you can take yours to a good dentist. If seriously, I believe all brand holders are pre-drilled.

I remeber seeing an old ad for Tuuks Custom with Bobby Orr featured so I know at one time they were their own company before Bauer bought them. I was figuring since alot of people remove their holders from their non-bauer skates and install Tuuks. Tuuk could generate more income by selling holders with holes that match up with the other popular skates brands like CCM/Reebok, Mission, Graf, Easton(I believe the hole pattern is identical) so people wouldn't have to have more holes drilled into their skate outsole. Since Bauer owns them now they probably wouldn't do this.

once upon a time graf used TUUKs on their skates, so its not that unbelievable the holes line up since im sure their inspiration for the Cobra's are from the TUUK.

Cobra holes and Tuuk do not line up. Obviously when Tuuk + used to be on Graf skates, they were drilled to line up. My personal observation is that either the front two or rear two line up. Everything else has to be drilled.o

The only thing is you need rivets/screws in those corners of the tower. Not having the rivets/screws balanced will stress the boot. Graf takes a minimalistic approach to it by just doing those key areas.

That was another reason I thought Tuuk was separate from Bauer. Are you sure that these Grafs were retail and not custom orders? Perhaps the Cobras that were riveted before Graf came out with the RMS matched up with the Tuuk holes.

Well, cujofan is wrong on this - the inspiration for the Cobra was based on Perfecta. You can see the design if you just imagine the spaces between the towers filled.

Graf has had RMS for a long time - even when they used Tuuk. All they did was drill the boot to the Tuuk rivet pattern. Cobra and Tuuk have NEVER been the same hole-wise.
