Mission Fuel 120 AG vs. XP Skates

Recommended Posts

XP's. Stiffer skate for more power skating. I'm not a real dippsy-doodler so the AG's aren't really practical for the way I play. I like support on my ankles as opposed to a more flexable fit.

Mission skates are generally a low volume fit. They generally don't fit a person with a wide or high volume foot. I can wear a EE size and just sneak into them and it takes them a while before they become reasonably comfortable. If you want a wider, higher volume fit your best to stick to a CCM/RBK or an Easton skate. The highest volume fit I believe is the Nike Flexlite skate. It has tons of foot room but too sloppy a fit for my feet.

My son skated the 120XP's and from what I recall they were a pretty upright skate (even with the Pitch holders) - just look at some pics and you can see that back side of the skate seems pretty upright. I also recall that they were a slightly taller boot and allowed for a bit higher instep (look at the pics). Even after profiling, etc they were "average" skates.

My impressions were that the missions were sort of a klunky skate as compared to the Vapor XXXX's he moved into. There was no comparison in performance as the Vapor was an amazing upgrade.

2 things, first of all they're in a different price bracket so they can't really be compared too closely ( "regular price" seems to be about $120 apart). Second, I would have thought the AG line would be a better comparison to vapors and the XP line to the supreme line...

Bender, you are probably right on that - the Missions are definitely not in the class of the Vapor XXXX's and the AG would probably be a better comparison.

That being said, I think the 120XP's were just a bit "odd" with the upright/taller boot and really did not seem to help my kids game that much.

In comparison, when he strapped on the Vapor's you could see much more confidence while skating - then again - this is all perception.

But, I do recall pulling out the Missions and setting them next to some Supreme 70's that a teammate was skating on - and noticing how much more clunky the missions looked and were designed. Later that season, with tryouts around the corner and my kid having outgrown the Missions - I borrowed some Supreme 70's just to get by and he skated much, much better. When he eventually went to the Vapor XXXX's - there was noticable improvement even over the supreme 70's.

Not saying the mission was a bad skate - maybe it was just my kid or my admittedly biased impression - but the missions just didn't ever rise to the level of a "great skate" for me while the Vapors did.

The 120s were better than the 110s but still a poor adaptation of the supplefit technology.

The AGs don't compare to anything from Bauer, more like an updated Graf 700 series. The XPs were more like the Vapor and Supreme series and the two of them are actually fairly standard in concept. Construction and fit, not so much.
