Tackla pants questions...

Recommended Posts

Well, my pro 5000s have a bunch of extra buttons in various different places, I'm presuming it's to attach shells of different designs. I guess I don't really know.

Wonderful pants though.

If you go back to the 1st page you can see how many buttons they have in the picture of the red uppers I posted. That's why I gambled that the padded Bauer lowers I just picked up last night will also fit one way or another.

Well im gonna order mine tomorrow. Thanks alot for all the info.

Did they have them in stock? I'm interested because I was looking for some 5000 pros also, which after a lot of research I found are slightly different than the 5000x models. The pros are made in Canada, and the 5000x are made in Thailand.

I was able to find a pair of the pros, out of a place in Vancouver. US retailers only sell the 5000x. The Canadian made pros were really hard to find, no one seems to stock them. I did find one place that used to stock them that offered to look into having a pair made if I was interested.

I'd be really interested once I get the pros in comparing them to the 5000x models.

Canadian Tackla is made by and distributed by Vaughn in Canada. US Tackla is made overseas by Montreal Hockey Company. I wouldn't buy a non-Vaughn made Tackla pant.

Where does one purchase a Vaughn made Tackla pant. The ones I ordered are from Montreal Distribution. So im assuming the they are Thai. On a seperate note I kick boxed for 8 years and every thing i ever orederd from Thailand in the way of gloves, shinpads, thai pads, and espically Cups! were indestructible! Gotta love Cast steel cups.

It wasn't easy to find the 5000 pro model. To get a Vaughn made pair, it has to come from Canadian store. There were a number of places selling 951 and 9000 ACS, but the 5000 pro was really rare. Only found two places that had them, Bill's Skate Shop (bad website, had to search archives for email/number) in Vancouver, and one other place that had Sabres pro returns. I even went to Vaughn's site, searched through distributors by province, and googled their sites.

I currently have some Thai made 9000 airs, and they've last a while and have held up reasonably well. No fault of theirs, but I've lost a few pounds and am going from size 54 to 52. Since I have the money, I figured I'd get the Canadian made 5000s and make sure I'm getting some that will last a while.

Without having the different makes to compare, hard to say what all the differences are.

Also, the hockeyshop.com offered to look into having some made, which was actually cheaper than what I evetually found them for.

Got the TBL lowers today. Brand new just as he said. Someone who needs a size 48 lower section should jump all over the ones I put the link to. Good guy... he even tossed in a couple pair of TBL (older knit style) game-used socks in decent shape. Two thumbs up from me. Not sure if he's on MSH but his name is Kevin C.

I'm desperate for some buffalo sabres pants, if you could tell me where you found them it'd be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Those are 5000 PRO NHL in the picture on their site- you can tell by the two belts, amount of padding, and interior label they are the 5000x Pro version. They have the description wrong if the pant in the picture is what they are selling.

wow 249. is it me or does that seem high?

If they are pro returns, it would make sense that they would be 5000 pros, and the $249 price would go along with that. Price in dollars would be about $218, and since you there seems to be a very tight supply of 5000 pros, they can probably get that.

I've seen brand new 5000 PRO NHL on ebay go for north of $250US, especially in the harder to find sizes (54,56,48)

The padded Bauer lower section fit perfectly onto the Tackla Pro upper buttons. :D

Is there any sort of a model number or anything on the tags on the lowers? Be good to know in order to do a search on google or ebay

Nothing. All there is to see is a NBH tag with the size, and another showing the sizing chart and that's it. They're made in Thailand too which is interesting. Has Maltby's number in them along with the Red Wings logo and NHL logo on the right leg. I'll try to get/post some photos later today if possible. From what I've seen it's nearly impossible to find the padded lowers in not just Tackla but any other brand. The uppers are non-existent on eBay. Complete 5000 Pro pants are very rare finds too. I think that most folks who grab them won't part with them.

I don't even wear my Tackla 5000s and I won't sell them... but then again I wouldn't sell my pro Nike, Jofa or Bauers either.

Lol, I understand that. I wanted to get a little better mobility and wanted the thigh pads to come down and get good protection to the knees. Thus the grab of the Tackla's. I figure they'll get worn and used no matter what so when I could grab used ones in good shape for less than new I went for it. I figure it doesn't do me any good to have equipment just lying around to stare at and never use. At least with the used lowers I won't worry about getting that first nick, cut, or mark on them!

Got the Tackla 5000 Pros, Canadian made by Vaughn.

Expensive, but very nice.

Much more padding than my 9000 airs. Will need to compare the nylon on them, that is one thing that is different between the Thai made and Canadian made models.

Well, my Draper Tackla lower is headed back now. Kind of a bit high on the shipping though but what could I tell them? It cost me less than $15 USD to ship them to Toronto. When they called for payment info I was told $45 USD to ship them back and the actual repairs were $35. Not cool at all if you ask me to gouge a person on shipping. I should have them Thursday and all I can say is the work had better be top-notch. I should've just sent a UPS call tag instead. The lady did end up taking a whopping $5 off the shipping. End of rant. I'll post pics when they're back here. I'll probably sell the Maltby padded Bauer lower as I don't need 3 of them.

Pics coming shortly hopefully. They did a very nice job removing the old pad pockets and replacing them, along with touching up all seams as needed. But I'm still a little miffed about paying almost 2x what the actual shipping cost to return them was.
