705's to 4.0 Flexlites?

Recommended Posts

Other then then stiffness of the boot is there any positive/negatives from making this change. Im hoping they are just priced lower because they are a niche market and not a lower end skate.

From the reviews i read they are wider, low arch, less volume, lots of forefoot volume, heel lock and a softer boot. Im wondering if they are going to be heavier, hard to break in, etc. I have arch pains so im hoping this is the skate for me.

Im going to try them on but before buying them i just wanted to clear up some things that i wouldn't find out til i hit the ice.

I recently got a pair of flexlite 4.0's.

They were pretty comfortable without having them baked. After it was baked it felt like wearing a comfortable casual shoe.

On my first skate with these, it already felt like it was almost broken in.

I normally wear a "EE" width sizes but I only needed to get a "D". Its got tons of forefoot volume.

Heel lock is really good, i find that the insole it comes with really helps the heel stay in place (its got this grippy material on it).

I find the boot to be medium stiffness.

The weight of the boot won't bother you as it doesn't weigh that much, its pretty light even when I my feet sweat a lot.

Even though the boot comes with insole that supports a small arch, if you have a flatfeet with even the tiniest arch, it'll give you some pain. I am going to get custom orthotics to fix this problem, I hope they can manipulate the grip that the stock insoles come with.

But yea, if you got a small arch, wide fore foot, narrow heels. This skate is practically made for those kind of feet. So just give it a try and see how it works out.

I cannot fit my foot in 4.0 flexlites. The only skate that my foot even fits into is a 709. So i wouldn't compare the two boots as the 709's have a ton more volume.

how is the arch? Im only comparing the 705 because thats my skate right now, not trying to compare straight across.

Did you get yours at The Hockey Shop? thats where i was going to go to try them on, they said they have them on sale for $429 but i still think it might be easier to get them online somehow. Anyways where did you get yours and how much if you dont mind me asking?

I actually got customs done for my grafs, cost $600 and it was probably the biggest waste of money i have ever spent. I don't think there is that many places in Vancouver that are good with skates so beware. Do you know who you are going to see because im curious oh how yours turn out compared to mine, PM and ill tell you who not to go see lol.

They don't have 'a ton more' - they're both very deep and wide but very different lasts. It depends where you need that width and depth along the foot.

I wear an 8D in Flexlites, but had to go up to a 9W in 709s to get anything close to a proper fit.

The Flexlite 4.0's are more or less the same as the original 10's, and last year's 18's; the 4.0 Pro's (Euro/Asia & Pro only) are roughly equivalent to the 12 & 20.

The new CCM U+ Pro skates are great for people with high volume feet. I dont necessarily have a thick foot, but I have a high arch/instep with moderately wide feet (fits fine in a Vapor xxxx or Supreme One95) and failed the pencil test w/the Flexlite 4.0 skates. I did however fit into the CCM U+ Pro very well and it seems to have more material around the lower ankles and quarters than the Flexlites do. Probably due to the higher cut and tapered fit of the ankle area on the Flexlite. The Flexlites are fairly wide though in the insole/midfoot area, but I think the CCM U+ Pro has more volume IMO
