CCM Vector?

Recommended Posts

I am in need of a senior sized helmet and and gloves. Probably won't be used competitvley just for helping out on ice with my kids team. So I am looking for cheap. Generally speaking what is the difference between CCM V2 and V4 products? Is v4 better quality?

THanks

Yes the V4 will be a slightly better product, but as far as helmets go. I wouldn;t go cheap, it's your head. I understand that you're just helping your kids team, but one funny fall and you're out... The V8 helmet is highly regarded. As is the Bauer 4500, and Easton S9.

Never skimp on a helmet just as Ininew said. Other Protective equipment is fine to skimp on for just coaching but I would highly recommend going to your Local Hockey Store and buying a proper fitting Upper model helmet.

As said helmets must be fitted and sized correctly to do their job; helping prevent your brains from scrambling. IF THE CCM FITS YOU PROPERLY the V8/V08/Vector 8 will be very suitable and is very competitively priced among its competition.

The CCM line is scaled as you noted, with 2 being less than 4, than 6, and so on. Most brands use numbers and increase similarly. Higher numbers usually denote lighter, more flexible materials. A V2 glove will be blocky and stiff with cheaper materials, all the way to a V10 glove that is incredibly light and flexible with wicking liners and vents, fast dry, etc. Sometimes durability is sacrificed for performance, so do not think buying a $150 glove will let you use it for 5 years with no wear.

Gloves fit differently between companies and the CCM line may not have the right finger length compared to your palm size, the correct amount of volume, or you may feel the cuff is too restrictive. Try on different brands and different sizes until you find a comfortable glove that fits how you like for the price you want to pay.

Or, if you don't care to get that specific, just try a few sizes and buy what looks cool for the price you want to spend.

Having a top helmet doesnt always mean its the best, it may have the best protection but the ccm vector v8 helmet was rated helmet of the year. Generally, one knotch down on the numbering is just the top helmet with a much more comfortable vn liner. The bauer 4500 is one of the most popular (and best looking) helmets, thats been around since its days as a cooper. You dont need to spend $200 to protect your head with more then adaquete protection though, a 4500 can easily be had for about $60-70.
