Fred Cusick 1918 - 2009

It's a sad for any Bruin fan who remembers the glory days when he called there games.

There was nothing better than a big Adams division match up on a Thursday late in the season with him and Derek Sanderson calling the game.

Watching a B's game hasn't been the same since he and Derek stopped doing the games. Word has it that Derek was asked to stay on but he refused to do it without Fred.

Especially when you consider what the B's have had for play by play guys since then.

Every time I watch old games from the Garden and hearing his voice always brings a smile to my face.

Like I said a few months ago, Fred Cusick and Johnny Pierson were the TV38 voices of the Bruins for me for a long time. Cusick had a great set of pipes for his play-by-play. When he did the game, it was about the game, not about Fred Cusick, which is the way so many of today's announcers do it(insert Joe Buck here). RIP Fred Cusick.

I had cable in the 70s/80s. thank god for TV38. I used to watch the Bruins on Thursday nights before going to play at Low Tor in Haverstraw, NY from 10:30 to midnight and then having too much too much fun in the parking lot with my buddies. Fred Cusick calling out # 28 Tom Fergus or #26 Mike Krushylneski for some great play or pass! I will never forget how upset he was by the tragedy that struck Normand Levielle. I remember that well.

Couldn't agree more. I can't stand when the play by play guy starts to tell what he thinks or whine about bad calls.

Watching those videos is enough to bring a tear to your eye..............

I'm lucky enough to be friends with his granddaughter and she says its a very emotional time for her family. She and her family are greatful to all the hockey fans in boston and around the country that have paid their respects to him. She has spent the last few days reading as many articles and blogs about his fan's memories and is truly happy to see how much he meant to everyone. She also told me that the Red Sox had a moment of silence at the game the other night.

I was lucky enough to be heading to a Borders to grab a few magazines, and Fred happened to be there signing his book... The appearance wasn't posted in papers, or anything. Obviously, I popped in line and got a signed copy of the book. He greeted me with a "hello" and I immediately got goosebumps, and was speechless. I fumbled around with words, finally blurted out "It's an honor to meet you..." and thanked me, and the signed copy of the book has already been one of my most cherished items prior to this sad, sad day.
