Problems going from ball to puck

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there moved away from palaying ball leagues to a puck league?

Just started training with my first puck team after playing ball for years back when i was younger.

Having a real hard time recieving passes (keep missing them) and handling the puck!

Please tell me its normal!

Rich

I started with a ball in street, and made the switch to ice soon after. The first few games/practices I felt so out of place with the puck. It was heavier, and harder to get it to do what I wanted. Now after playing Ice for so long, when I do make it back out to the street court with the boys the ball just flies every where, shots go sailing way over the net.

interesting you brough this up. i just started playing ball hockey again with a few guys that play Tier 2 ball hockey after not having played for a while.

a few things that i really like about ball hockey.

it has helped my hands alot with stick handling on the ice

has forced me to keep my feet moving as i can not glide on running shoes and get lazy sometimes lol.

i actually had a hard time receiving passes in ball hockey and not ice hockey so i figured that should help and get better at both which it has. the reason why for me is because i would stop moving my feet when i would get a pass in ice and then start moving again. i found in ball i have to keep moving as i am getting the pass and after.

shooting is the same either way.

i just make ure to use a shorter stick when playing ball hockey.

Hmm my shot is the only thing that is the same, still as hard and actually more accurate.

I'll try my longer stick next week and see how it goes, but really feel like i'm gonna let the other guys down if i keep messing up

I find when playing ball hockey, i can't take wrist shots because the ball just sticks to the ground. Could it be the ball is too sticky?

It is because of the mechanics of the wrist shot. Your stick blade cups over the ball at the beginning of the shot and that presses the ball to the ground not allowing it to spin. You can't take a classic wrist shot with a ball.
