Petey21 1 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I saw a guy on TV today who did something interesting for stickhandling drills, he took an empty toilet paper roll and held it around the stick (lower hand) while he was working on his skills (in the livingroom!), has anyone tried this? It looked like a simple thing anyone can try, but I wonder what good it does for your skills? Are there any other interesting things to try to improve the general stickhandling skills and get soft hands? Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 A piece of plastic pipe from you local home improvement store does the same thing. It forces you to be better with your top hand.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 There was a product out some while ago that tried t do that. Never really took off. I can't remember the name, it just slips my mins. But it's exactly that basicaly, plastic moulded into a grip shape and you slid it onto your stick and practiced.
ktang 34 Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Some of my coaches had us do that drill with the toilet paper rolls when I was growing up, and I did that with my son's team at a couple of practices last year. It reinforces the idea of sliding the lower hand up and down the shaft as the puck gets closer to or farther away from the skates. You can also use it to practice passing and receiving; it mainly reinforces the bottom hand's sliding up and down when receiving passes closer to or farther away from the skates. Some players have knobs bigger than the toilet paper roll, so that it doesn't slip through. In these cases, cut the toilet paper roll length-wise, slip it in, and then tape it closed.
