Best LHS's in Montreal

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm going to MTL the next few days and wanted to know what the better LHS's are near Rue Peel. Yes I used the search, but the info was from a long time ago.

If you have any transportation possibilities, go to Rousseau Sport in Laval - that place is the cat's meow for hockey gear - Hockey Experts off the 13 in Laval also has a great selection - better sale prices, A. Roy Sport is close to the Taschereau Rousseau, but their prices are border-line butt-rape.

Good luck.

I've been to Montreal several times. Wife's relatives are from Ville LaSalle and in Laval. I've always found Rousseau in Laval and St. Hubert to be very good and have staff that know a bit about the game and equipment. Good selection and decent quality stuff. Give them a try. Hockey Experts in LaSalle aren't too bad either. Their on Boulevard Newman. Smaller store but they have all the major brands.

Are Rousseau in Quebec and Pro Hockey Life in Ontario the same company?

I've been to the Pro Hockey Life in Vaughn Mills and it's an awesome hockey store. I've also ordered from them online, and the order was shipped from "Rousseau Sports" so I assume they are one in the same.

The first order I placed was for a pair of Warrior Hitman pants for my son, and they arrived quickly and were exactly as advertised.

But my second order for a Jr. Warrior Mac Daddy (on sale for $139) was a huge disappointment. The condition of the stick left a lot to be desired - it'd obviously been used in store for a lot of target practice but no mention of this was in the online ad which can still be seen here: http://www.prohockeylife.com/eng/products/...gr_jr?macdagr50

I took pictures of the stick immediately after unboxing:

Am I just being too picky or does this stick look like it's seen a bunch of pucks before my son even gets to tape it up? He doesn't want to send it back because he really likes the Mac Daddy (he's moving up from a Warrior Hitman) but I feel like the $140 in birthday money he's spent on this was a raw deal since it wasn't advertised as being worn or damaged.

What would you do? Has anyone dealt with Pro Hockey Life customer service (or Rousseau Sports in Laval since that's where it seems to have shipped from)? Any advice?

Thanks... and sorry for hijacking this thread but we just got the stick today and I'm still dealing with the disappointment my son had in being let down by Sports Rousseau with this order!

Colin

Are any of these places near a metro station? I need new skates, but don't have a LHS anywhere near me.

I'll be up there for work in a few weeks, and was hoping to pick some up. I'm not planning on renting a car or anything, so something downtown or at least near a station would be nice.

Also, someone said no good deals in MTL. I don't expect website clearance sale prices, but are the LHS's there extra expensive of something?

Their decently expensive, the biggest LHSs are Rousseau in Laval, Hockey Experts in Dollard des Ormeaux (West Island, closest Metro is Cote-Vertu then you have to take a bus, it's a pain if you aren't driving), Maison de Sport has a decent selection but it's pretty expensive.

If you're American, I hope you're not under the impression that hockey gear is cheaper in Canada just because it's our national sport. It's actually more expensive than in the U.S. because the hockey companies know that we are willing to spend more for gear. And it has nothing to do with the dollar exchange rate.

I will be staying downtown for half of the trip, and then over by the airport for the other half. I might be able to get a co-worker to let me drive the rental car one night.

I'm not expecting a super-great deal, but I don't want to pay exorbitant prices either. The closest LHS is at least 3 hours from where I live, and even then, they don't have a good selection where I can try on several skates and pick something that fits well.
