wickedwrister 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 My son would like a xBox 360 for Christmas. I have heard of the RROD and other problems. It seems that the new "Arcade" model has the new gizmo that prevents the thing from crashing. My son told me if we do get him one to please NOT get the "Arcade" model because it has low memory. What do you think? I have heard that it can be upgraded to perform like the more expensive ones. His whole thing is memory and that he would like to do the online play with his friends. Thanks in advance.WW
JR Boucicaut 3802 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 You can buy the hard drive separately, put it on the 360, and keep it in the Arcade box. That way, he'll be bummed when he sees the box, but then be happy once he sees that it has the hard drive :)
wickedwrister 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 1) So it's a pretty easy fix?2) You do endorse the "Arcade" with the new whatever it is? I have heard that if you buy from Dell online, they have all new ones.
JR Boucicaut 3802 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 Yeah, the HD just snaps in and out, it sits on top of the machine.I really have no idea about that it is better than the other ones, but sounds like you did your research.
reyno2ac 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 I'd just go for the Elite version. You get 120GB instead of 256mb for only $100 more, while a new 60GB hard drive is $100 alone.**prices compared at BestBuy**Edit: Looks like you also get an hdmi cable with the Elite. I've got the arcade that came with a 20GB hard drive or something, but I store all my movies on an external hard drive.
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 All of the new Xbxo 360's produced should no longer have the RROD problem as Microsoft has rectified the issue. Microsoft has also included a 3 year warranty so dont worry. If it breaks, it will be of no charge and a repaired 360 will be shipped within the week back to you :) Do not buy the Arcade because getting a normal Xbox 360 or Elite already has the hard drive and the cost of the extra HD + the Arcade will be more than just buying a console WITH the HD already in. You cant play online or save games without a hard drive btw
Drewhunz 3 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 All of the new Xbxo 360's produced should no longer have the RROD problem as Microsoft has rectified the issue.Yep, with more thermal compound. Sad that it took this many years for a literally 2 cent fix.

Sad that it took this many years for a literally 2 cent fix. They've made motherboard configuration changes.Just buy it in person and check the made on date next to the serial number for as recent in 2009 as possible.Get the Pro or Elite over the Arcade.
