Time it takes to get your game back after injury

Recommended Posts

Well today I skated for the first time in 8 months, had a bad back injury. I did well for being out for so long, and I just wanted to know when I should expect to get back to where I was before I got hurt and when comes the point in which I can pick up on where I left off.

Obviously your back will be sore for a week or two when you come back, depends on how much core work they've had you doing in physical therapy and where you stand with that. Other than that, it would take me 3-4 times on the ice before i was halfway comfortable and a few more before things were back to normal.

Totally depends on your injury, and how quickly/completely you heal (largely dependent on your age). I fractured L-1/L-2 back in '93, and it was a good 8 years before it didn't bother me. I've done some muscle tears and sprains that were virtually unnoticeable a week or so after giving them the prescribed healing period. I sure wouldn't want to do that again now. Hope you have a quick recovery.

Cheers,

Chris

I hurniated L5/S1 (9mm) in 1985. I was fortunate that I had a good doctor. Instead of telling me I needed surgery right away he put me into extensive therapy. I was lucky that it worked to the point were I have never had it cut on. Alot of the injury depends on you, how you take pain, how your spine is built and what you are willing to endure. I can feel my back almost every day. Some days are good and some days are bad.

No one can tell you how long it will take. Youare the only one that knows how your body feels and how hard you can push it. Just don't try to rush things and hurt it again or make the injury worse..
